After nine seasons, 231 games, and 52 goals, Leonardo Pavoletti is ending his time as a Rossoblu player. After the match, the captain spoke to the media: <\/p>\n\n

THE EMBRACE OF A PEOPLE<\/strong>It’s been a very difficult week. I was constantly thinking that this beautiful love story was coming to an end. I didn’t think it would be so moving today. Maybe it would have been better not to give the speech (laughs). It was a privilege, an honor to be able to celebrate staying up and my last home game as a player in front of these people, with words that came from the heart, receiving the embrace of my teammates. I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful evening: my family and friends were also there for the occasion. I wanted to finish strong; here they really gave me everything from day one and for nine years.<\/p>\n\n

A “FEARFUL” EVENING<\/strong>“It was a ‘FEARFUL’ evening: the victory, the safety, the forty points, a milestone we hadn’t reached in years. I dreamed of an evening like this. In my head, I had a clear image of my farewell on the sidelines with the team celebrating. I was convinced of it. We had to deal with many problems, injuries: it was a difficult year but a very beautiful one because it brought us even closer together in the locker room. Everyone played and everyone contributed to achieving this safety. Deiola? Alessandro is a captain, we helped each other, we worked together over the years, you just had to look at each other. We brought Cagliari back to where it deserved to be, we always talked to each other and found the right way to encourage everyone and make it clear that Cagliari is a special place, that deserves to have special players. Ale is ready to lead the ship for the next few years, always taking it where it deserves to be.” <\/p>\n\n

THANK YOU ALL<\/strong>Coming off the bench wasn’t my strongest suit; it’s never easy. But over time, I improved, and even when I realized I wouldn’t start, I worked hard to be able to contribute in just a few minutes. I started playing less, scoring less, and getting a few more injuries, but the fans’ affection grew exponentially. So those goals in recent years were special and brought something magical to this city that has adopted me. Truly, thank you all. To all our people, I say thank you: thank you for what you’ve done for me, for the love you’ve given me, especially in the most difficult moments\u2014unfortunately, I’ve had a lot of that. Sooner or later, I’ll be able to repay this pledge of love, and then I’ll be the happiest person in the world.<\/p>\n\n

ON THE FUTURE<\/strong>The future? Good question. I recently had surgery to get myself back on track. I’m still not well, so we’ll see if any interesting offers come in. But I don’t want to fool anyone; right now, my knee isn’t showing encouraging signs. If it does, I’ll be able to better understand whether I’m done playing football or whether I can gain further experience. In the meantime, I’m working to get back into shape. This summer, I’ll enjoy Cagliari and my family, without worrying too much about tomorrow. A very important chapter in my life has ended, now it takes time and clarity to make a decision. Am I even considering a role in Cagliari’s management? I’d be lying if I told you no. After my contract renewal two years ago, I started thinking about it.
