Rossoblu midfielder Alessandro Deiola spoke to the media following the victory against Torino at the Unipol Domus, which mathematically secured survival. Here’s what he had to say. <\/p>\n\n

CAGLIARI COMES FIRST<\/strong>“Survival is the result of all the work we’ve done since the beginning of the year, with commitment, sacrifice, and dedication, day after day. It’s been a tough, difficult championship; we’ve had many setbacks, with injuries that have affected certain moments of the season. But everyone\u2014the team and the club\u2014has always remained united, we’ve all pulled in the same direction. We achieved our goal, reaching forty points; Cagliari hadn’t achieved that in years. The satisfaction is immense; we wanted to win to finish on a high in front of our fans and say goodbye to Leo in the best possible way. This evening is for him.”<\/p>\n\n

THANK YOU, LEO<\/strong>“Leo has been crucial to my growth over the years: he taught me so much, he was a leader, a role model. As I told the boys before the match, we are losing a teammate who has endured many battles. Infortuni, with his goals and his personality, was instrumental in achieving our goals. He carried the team on his shoulders and brought the ship to port, saving us in so many situations. We are losing a key asset, not just a great player, but also a great man. With him, we worked incredibly hard within the group, which allowed us to achieve certain goals. We will miss him. But I know he will always be there, and I want to thank him for everything.”<\/p>\n\n

RESPONSIBILITY AND BELONGING<\/strong>“The captain’s armband gives me a great sense of responsibility. I’ve grown a lot over the years, thanks in part to Leo and the other captains I’ve been fortunate enough to have. I’ve tried to learn something from each of them. I’m happy, I can’t wait to embark on this new journey, to contribute to the team’s goals. This club, this land, deserves so much. Besides me, there are other guys in this group who have been here for years; they’ve seen how we’ve worked with Leo, and I’m not worried: I have teammates who think the same way I do. This means that Leo has done a very important job over the years.”A SUCCESS FOR ALL<\/strong>Esposito and Palestra? They brought freshness and a carefree attitude, even in the most crucial moments of the season: they contributed significantly to our survival, they were two key players. The Coach? We were teammates, even roommates. We fought side by side in many battles, he’s like a big brother to me. For Cagliari, it was a very positive year, even if there were ups and downs. It was the best season in recent years. We got forty points and there’s still a game to play, we could increase that tally. I’m satisfied with the work done by everyone: Coach, staff, and team. I never had any doubts about the Coach’s preparation; he’s obsessive, he pays attention to detail, and he has fully met all expectations. My season was a bit of a struggle due to muscle injuries, something I’ve never experienced before. But I’m happy with how it went; I’m fine now, and I hope I’ve put those problems behind me. I’ll work hard this summer to be ready as well.<\/p>\n\n

AWARENESS AND AMBITION<\/strong>“The forty-point target? We set ourselves that goal. It’s right to aim for improvement every season; it’s also a message for the future. I thank the entire team, the staff, the club, and all the fans who supported us and contributed to achieving our goal of staying up. Let’s focus on the next match, then it will be time to think about next season with even more determination. In our work, our ambition must always be higher. Achieving this goal builds awareness: we’ve shown that if we’re united and work hard, we can overcome even the most difficult moments: this must be the path for the future.
