Leonardo Pavoletti spoke about himself on “Giorgia’s Secret”, the format dedicated to interviews from the world of football conducted by journalist Giorgia Rossi, broadcast on DAZN. Numerous topics were addressed during the chat at the CRAI Sport Center in Assemini, including curiosities and anecdotes: a long career which from Livorno, after various stages around Italy, took him to Cagliari, where he said goodbye as a footballer after 9 seasons, 231 matches and 52 goals. Below is an excerpt: THE EMOTIONS OF THE LAST RACE AT UNIPOL DOMUS<\/strong>“Rehabilitation is long, but I’ll get through it. The limp affects you, but the new knee surgery was the first step to get back to normal. How am I? I’m in a particular period of my life. For the rest, I’m starting to enjoy it: when you find yourself in the spotlight, all together, when you receive all this affection, it’s not easy to metabolise immediately. I’m starting to savor it now. Maybe I didn’t celebrate as I would have really wanted: I would have liked to finish this experience on the pitch, with a goal or a good performance and saying goodbye to the public with the game shirt, if you like, was that I remembered Van Basten’s farewell, unfortunately he also did it in plain clothes. The post-match against Torino was a difficult moment, just as it will be difficult to empty the locker after nine years. I didn’t expect it from the guys surprise party, a team barbecue at Deiola’s house. I was excited as if that surprise had been given to me by a relative, a close family member. They are fantastic guys and with that small gesture they made me move.” <\/p>\n\n

SARDINIA IN THE HEART<\/strong>“Rewinding the tape, nine years ago: arriving at the airport in Cagliari with so many fans chanting my name? It was an incredible surprise. When I opened the arrivals doors I found a sea of people in front of me. And I didn’t expect it in the slightest. Scarves, hugs, journalists. “But who do they think has arrived?” It was something that gave me a nice wake-up call. I had arrived in Cagliari to do well, of course, but I didn’t know I was so important, already from the arrival. So already that evening in the hotel, I said to myself: \u201cLeo, this is a great challenge. They expect a lot from you.” When did I understand that this would be the place to put down roots, to give birth to my children? The first year I didn’t understand it right away. I had been fine, but not enough to think I could stay here for so long. Then already from the second year… things on the pitch are turning: I score 16 goals, the national team arrives. My firstborn, Giorgio, is born. I’m starting to realize that something is changing. Even in the city the relationship with people had changed: not so much for the goal, it was a question of respect, from man to man. People began to understand that Pavoletti was not a cookie-cutter footballer, but that he liked living in the city, being calm, he was a good person. And if he could help, he did it. The Cagliari native, the Sardinian, are people who study you at first, they don’t immediately give you affection and then you take back everything that maybe they didn’t give you before.” <\/p>\n\n

THE MAGIC OF A GOAL<\/strong>“Bari? That goal still excites me. You can live on goals, money, but then there are moments that literally make you forget everything. You are at the center of the universe, you fly. And to think that I didn’t enjoy that goal at the time, I was angry with Mister Ranieri. I had stayed on the bench a little too long, for me. But, in reality, he was right. Maybe he really wanted to make me as angry as possible before letting me come in like that, and I would have done something. Yes, a fan had exactly predicted my goal, coming on from the bench, in the 94th minute. It was fantastic, I met him immediately after the final.”<\/p>\n\n

THE COACH<\/strong>“Did Pisacane surprise me? Yes, very much. In the industry, people talked about him as if he were destined for the job. You know, it’s like when you put someone in a place and that place is exactly where they belong. So you could sense it, but then you couldn’t know if he’d be ready right away or if it would take a little longer. Fabio wasn’t just ready, he was very ready.”<\/p>\n\n

FUTURE<\/strong>Back on the pitch? I’ve given so much in recent years, perhaps more in the locker room than on the pitch. I’ve now reached a point in my life where I need to figure out whether I can continue to have that wonderful motivation on the pitch or whether I need to take another path that can restore that motivation, that energy, I had at the start of my career. Continuing at Cagliari in a different capacity? It would be wonderful, I’m not denying it. Living in Cagliari has always been a gift to me, and continuing here would be wonderful. Of course, the club has other projects now, so I’m waiting; perhaps our paths will reconnect. Where do I see myself in five years? I don’t know, definitely being a father, which is what I’ve always dreamed of doing. Otherwise, football has always been central. I could see myself as a sporting director, but I’d be banal. I don’t know if I’d be capable, ready, or even if I’d enjoy it. We’ll see as we go along. I hope that people more capable than me, who perhaps have already experienced these moments, will be able to guide me.<\/p>\n\n
