Fabio Pisacane was the special guest of “Sky Calcio Unplugged”, the Sky Original video podcast hosted by Lisa Offside with Gianluca Di Marzio and Stefano Borghi. Marco Borriello and Cesare Natali spoke during the episode. The rossobl\u00f9 coach spoke about the emotions he experienced during his first season in the top flight, which had just ended with the victory over the “Meazza”, which led Cagliari to reach 43 points in the standings. His words: <\/p>\n\n

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE GROUP<\/strong>“At the beginning of my experience on the bench at the helm of the first team, as a rookie in Serie A, there might have been some doubts in the boys, I think it’s normal. I had players in front of me who already had years of experience in the top flight. But fortunately I was able to get into their heads straight away, to make them understand that I wasn’t there just passing through and that I needed them, because then it’s the players who take to the pitch. In football what strikes me is that in moments of difficulty the teams emerge where there is a real connection. Tactically all the teams are prepared, the difference is made by the relationship, the willingness to sacrifice, the ability to remain clear even in the most difficult situations. With these guys there was a connection, despite the mistakes, which can last over an entire season. It was an intense and real championship, not only from a professional point of view, but also from a human point of view. When you arrive in Serie A you understand that everything weighs more: the responsibilities, the expectations, the silences, everything makes you have a perception of what you are experiencing I rewind the tape and think about my first day on the Cagliari bench, that adrenaline, the impact with the group, I think about all this and everything I experienced this season. The bond that was created within this group was a driving factor in achieving our goal.”<\/p>\n\n

THE CHOICE TO BECOME A COACH<\/strong>“One evening in May in Cagliari, I met Giulini, with whom I’d remained on excellent terms. After my years with the Rossoblu, I’d suffered yet another knee injury in Lecce, and I was starting to think about the future. I asked him what role he’d see me in. “Fabio, I think you should be a coach.” Actually, I’d always had a predilection for sports management, as Marco Borriello, an exemplary professional, also remembers; we spent a year together here in Cagliari. I’ve always liked learning about all the players, even those playing in the lower leagues. When the President gave me that advice, I started to think about it. I respect him; when he says things to me, even negative ones, I know it’s for my own good. He’s a far-sighted person: after all, becoming Cagliari’s president at just 38 can’t be a coincidence; you have to have something special. So I started to think about it. Indeed, even some of my coaches, like Maran and Rastelli, told me that One day I was meant to be a coach. The president suggested it to me at a pivotal moment in my career, a time of change. And so from there I took that direction. Giulini also gave me the opportunity to start coaching in the youth teams. I was already in Cagliari, I had never left, it’s where I chose to live with my family.” <\/p>\n\n

THE STAFF<\/strong>“My staff is made up of excellent professionals, although I’m primarily looking for people. People, even in difficult times, bring results. As I’ve always told my staff: ‘I’d rather have a 100% soldier than a 50% marshal.’ Choosing people well is my prerogative; it’s people who will take me to the top. For example, after a chat with Cesare Natali, I wanted to meet Giacomo Murelli to ask him to become my assistant. I’d known him since my time at Chievo, and we’d established a good relationship. Then it was Giacomo who recommended Bucci to me. I was truly lucky. Natali, whom I thank, also recommended someone like Alberto Gallego, who arrived from Spain. He joined the staff to take care of the methodology; I wanted someone who had positional football in his arsenal. I like having a lot of resources within me; I’m not a fundamentalist. I like a football that starts from the position and develops relationships. Then, at a certain point along the way, Alberto went to lead the U20s. who won the playout final in Naples on Saturday and will remain in Primavera 1. I take this opportunity to renew my congratulations to everyone.” <\/p>\n\n

WORKING WITH YOUNG PLAYERS<\/strong>“In addition to the many Italians on the pitch, the greatest satisfaction this year was launching so many young players. Mendy, born in 2007, the day before was a protagonist with the U20 in Naples, the following day he took to the pitch at San Siro. This is one of the indicators that tell the great work done by the Club in recent years on young people, the synergy that there has been this season between the first team and the U20. Credit must be given to those who have brought the various Oberts in recent years, Idrissi, Luvumbo, Liteta, Trepy and Mendy to make it to the first team. This year, in the most difficult moments, we were able to fish from underneath, showing off our young players, who need space to emerge.”<\/p>\n\n

GROUP MANAGEMENT<\/strong>“The technical-tactical aspects are important, but the management of the group and of human resources is even more important. For example, when I started to concretely think about wanting to be a coach, one of the first thoughts was to understand the language of the new generation. So I started to inform myself, to study. When I started managing the Primavera I already had a wealth of knowledge. This season I think I managed to establish a good relationship with everyone. Esposito grew up with many expectations in his confronti, ha tanta personalit\u00e0 e ambizione. Quest\u2019anno ho avuto la fortuna di avere tanti leader. Con il capitano Pavoletti, Deiola, Mina, Zappa e Caprile, che ha una leadership e un carisma naturale. Il rapporto con Mina? Autentico. Ieri sera \u00e8 venuto a salutami mentre finivo il giro delle interviste, ci teneva a farlo prima di partire. C\u2019\u00e8 una stima reciproca. Ho salutato Palestra, lo avevo in realt\u00e0 gi\u00e0 fatto in settimana nel mio ufficio. Sembra il calciatore che ti costruisci alla Play mettendo i maximum parameters: he has an incredible stride, I saw him for the first time in the Primavera and when the director Angelozzi spoke to me about him I still had no doubts, he started working on him based on our requests and suggestions, but he needed time.<\/p>\n\n

THE FUTURE<\/strong>“Gratitude is very important to me. For everything Cagliari has given me and is giving me, I would struggle to see myself away from here. I have a contract with this club, and I see my future at Cagliari. I’m ambitious, and the club shares my ambitions: to make the work even more productive, to have an even more important championship than the one just ended.”<\/p>\n\n

A SPECIAL DEDICATION<\/strong>“I want to thank my father. He’s the man I owe the most to, the one who helped me develop resilience and a hunger for success. At 13, I found myself paralyzed in a hospital bed, in a coma for 20 days. My father took care of me and told me I’d return to playing football, not just living. A future without him is inconceivable to me; it’s the only thing in life that truly scares me.” <\/p>\n\n
