Presentation press conference for the new Sports Director of Cagliari Calcio, Pietro Accardi, who met the media in the Contemporary Room of Opificio Innova, at the “Sa Manifattura” spaces in Cagliari. Next to him, to do the honours, was the rossobl\u00f9 president Tommaso Giulini. With them also the new Director of the Youth Sector Max Canzi. <\/p>\n\n

The introduction by Tommaso Giulini, before the questions asked by the accredited journalists to today’s three protagonists:<\/strong> “I am very pleased to be able to be here with Pietro Accardi and Max Canzi. We are part of a process of rejuvenation of the Company and of general restructuring, which has been started and continues over time, entering a new phase today. A path which has seen significant results in the season just ended, we want to carry forward this philosophy with coherence, aiming to improve further: when we talk about young people and the ability to use new technologies, there is a need to look for new skills and professionals. This is why I welcome Accardi, who has had a long experience in Empoli with many emerging and talented elements, it is also nice to welcome back Max Canzi in a new role compared to what he played with us from 2015 to 2020. We are talking about two indispensable figures, with the aim that our path becomes even more virtuous thanks to the contribution of each member The youth sector is fundamental, we work in synergy and not in watertight compartments, beyond the merit of each issue that we are going to address, to the technical project that is starting to be built, I believe that the return of Canzi and the fact that Accardi has chosen to collaborate with Roberto Muzzi represents a lot in terms of sense of belonging. This feeling must be instilled in everyone who arrives in Cagliari, in recent times we have managed to do it and it is important to persevere, in this sense also two acquired Sardinians like Max and Roberto become ideal figures”. <\/p>\n\n

THE EMOTIONS AND THE CHOICE OF CAGLIARI<\/strong>“The emotions are endless. I have been lucky enough to experience Cagliari many times as an opponent and it has always been a difficult environment and an all-round fearsome team. The sense of belonging that this city and this Island convey to you is very strong, whoever wears this shirt must fully embrace these values. I thank the president for choosing me: it was Cagliari that chose me, not the other way around. For me it is a source of great pride to represent this Club.”<\/p>\n\n

IDEAS AND WHERE TO START AGAIN<\/strong>“The ideas are clear, but today it makes little sense to name names because we are still at the beginning of the journey. The comparison with the Coach is constant and daily. Our desire is to raise the level of the team, starting however from a base that we consider already good. We have lost some players who were on loan with us, for others the right of redemption has not been exercised: those roles will have to be filled. The will of the Club is to maintain the hard core of the squad and add quality and solutions. The objective is the valorisation of the young people, I believe is a crucial path for a club like Cagliari. I was lucky enough to train in Empoli, where the youth sector was the heart of the project. There we always started with the boys ready for the first team and then built the rest of the squad. We want to work closely with the youth sector, with Canzi and with all the members of the youth sector.<\/p>\n\n

THE RELATIONSHIP WITH PISACANE AND THE CENTRALITY OF THE COACH<\/strong>“Today, even more than in the past, the coach is a central figure within a club. The kids need to be guided, encouraged and accompanied in their journey. We have a good, prepared and capable coach, who as a rookie has managed to carve out a leading space for himself in Serie A. We know that this year the difficulties will increase, but my job is not to replace the coach. I respect the roles and will be at his side to support him and the team. It’s my way of working. With Fabio we talk continuously, we also saw each other last week and the discussion is constant. It is essential to talk and share ideas. It will be important not to get the characteristics of the players we are going to get wrong, because they will have to be functional to his way of interpreting football.”<\/p>\n\n

YOUNG PLAYERS AND IDENTITY<\/strong>“The line drawn is to invest in young people, but not only that. We also need expert players, capable of transmitting values and knowledge to the younger ones. In recent years Cagliari has had a strong Italian component and this is certainly an aspect to take into consideration, but we must be attentive to the opportunities offered by the market. If there is the possibility of taking a very young boy, born in 2007 or even later, Italian or foreign but who we consider valuable, we must be ready to take it.”<\/p>\n\n

TRANSFER MARKET SITUATIONS<\/strong>“As regards Luvumbo, at the moment we have two concrete requests: one coming from abroad and one from Italy. We are evaluating them carefully. Prati, on the other hand, will return to Cagliari and during the retreat we will evaluate together whether he will continue to be part of the group or whether other decisions will be made. It will depend primarily on him. Andrea Belotti is a player who needs no introduction, as does Alberto Dossena. Andrea has been appreciated for his human as well as technical qualities, but he had the misfortune of suffering a major injury and today we are still making evaluations. As for Dossena, we are currently also following other profiles. At the moment we have not received offers for our players, but today our idea is to confirm the structure of the group and strengthen it.” <\/p>\n\n

ACCARDI’S TRIP<\/strong>“In life it often happens that you do ten things right, one wrong and everyone only remembers the mistake. The experience at Sampdoria taught me a lot. Falling can be an opportunity, because when you are left alone you are forced to look inside yourself and do introspective work. It happened to me as it happens to players and coaches. I made all the choices because I truly believed in them. Today I look at the path ahead of me and I think it is still very long. I know what it means to represent Cagliari and I will give it my all myself in this adventure, also thanks to the mistakes I have made in the past. The goal is to build a team that is increasingly competitive and functional to the coach’s ideas. We have a good starting point and we must be good at improving it without distorting it. The daily discussion with the coach will help us make the right choices.<\/p>\n\n
