The Mont’e Prama Foundation, with its joint communication campaign with Cagliari Calcio and in collaboration with FASI, goes through Venice on its cultural journey
A new cultural journey, a new sporting journey with the partnership of Cagliari Calcio, an ongoing and significant collaboration with FASI (Federation of Sardinian Associations in Italy). The Mont’e Prama Foundation walks side by side with its partners, on the thread of the joint communication campaign with Cagliari Calcio and continues in collaboration with FASI, through its cultural conferences in cities of art, such as Venice.
This morning, the Candiani Cultural Centre in Mestre hosted a symposium on the Sinis Natural Archaeological Park, which once again aroused curiosity about the historical and cultural characteristics of a part of our island, confirming people’s interest in visiting the site. The Giants of Mont’e Prama, shrouded in the fascination of a distant epoch, play the part of absolute protagonists of a very ancient history.
The conference is part of a special event that is enriched by the sporting context of the football match between Venezia and Cagliari.
The meeting offered participants an opportunity to learn more about the history and beauty of a park, the Sinis Park, which with its extraordinary cultural and natural wealth represents a fundamental resource for the enhancement of the Sardinian heritage. The conference, which was opened by the greetings of the City Council, the Deputy Mayor and the President of the Mont’e Prama Foundation, involved the audience, guided by experts in the field, in the discovery of the wonders of Sinis: an area that hosts, among its treasures, the famous Giants of Mont’e Prama and numerous other archaeological testimonies. Among the greetings was also that of the President of the Sardinians’ Circle in Mestre. Also present was Matteo Sechi, Cagliari Calcio’s Partnership Manager, who emphasised how important it is for Sardinians to open up to the world in order to make the beauty of their land known.
‘The goal is always to combine passion for sport with a cultural moment, strengthened by the joint communication campaign with Cagliari Calcio and the exceptional collaboration of FASI. – says President Muroni -After the conference, participants and fans will be able to enjoy an immersive experience in sports culture, following the match between Venezia and Cagliari Calcio.
The Mont’e Prama Foundation, which has always been committed to promoting Sardinia’s historical and archaeological heritage,’ continues Muroni, ’with this event intends to strengthen the link between art, culture and sport in a dialogue that involves communities and enhances the territory. A city of art such as Venice, symbol of a millenary tradition, has always embodied harmony between the protection and enjoyment of its heritage, becoming a place where the dialogue between past and future has always been at the centre of cultural reflection. Its history, full of challenges and successes in heritage management, offers a fundamental perspective to understand the dynamics of conservation and enhancement in a global context. It is, in fact, a place where the issue of heritage protection is not only developed but rooted in a unique historical experience, which continues to be a beacon for future generations.’
‘Every occasion on which we can travel with our story is something wonderful to highlight and tell. – Begins Matteo Sechi, Partnership Manager of Cagliari Calcio – The Giants have been accompanying us for more than two years now, for the third football season, and having them next to us in some of the most fascinating venues in Italy represents enormous pride. The millenary history of Sardinia, its excellences, the synergic work between Cagliari Calcio and the Mont’e Prama Foundation: we continue to live these emotions linked to the red and blue passion, doing it in a prestigious place like Venice embellishes it all, continuing a trend undertaken in recent years that has seen the Giants in other leading locations.’
‘In Mestre, there will be another opportunity to tell and make known the extraordinary beauty of the Giants and the Sinis territory. – highlights Bastianino Mossa, FASI President – For Sardinians who have emigrated to this area of Veneto and beyond, it will therefore be a great opportunity to hear and learn more about the richness of this territory.
For us, Sardinians all over the world, the Giants are now travelling companions, true ambassadors of Sardinia, not only in Italy but also abroad, as the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella himself emphasised, elevating them to a national symbol of union between the Italian and Spanish peoples.
To this passion for the Giants, we emigrants combine that for Cagliari, Casteddu, which we follow in all the away matches on the continent.’
Among the conference’s speeches was one by Giorgio Murru, Director of the scientific area of the Mont’e Prama Foundation, accompanied by Nicola Castangia’s precious photographs of the ‘Giants before the Giants’, those who have monopolised the attention of Sardinian archaeology. He then emphasised the importance of creating moments of encounter with those who have the passion to confront the intimate sphere of a people, framed by a landscape of extraordinary beauty, such as that of our island.
Archaeologist Ilaria Orri presented the history of the Sinis Natural Archaeological Park, opening a window on remote places such as Mont’e Prama, with the Giants identified as the symbol of the entire island, and Tharros, the crossroads of peoples who shaped the site according to their own culture.
