“The decisive goal of the match came in the 5th minute, when Ivan Sulev converted a penalty awarded for a foul on Vinciguerra by Ronchetti. During the first half, Cesena had two important chances to equalize: Galea missed a good opportunity from a set-piece play, while Perini, launched through on goal, missed the target in front of goalkeeper Iliev. In the second half, the match became more intense. In the 63rd minute, Cagliari defender Soldati was forced to leave the field due to injury and was replaced by Franke. Cesena sought the equalizer, coming close to scoring with a header from Domeniconi that hit the crossbar. In the final moments, the visitors were reduced to nine men after Coveri was sent off for a second yellow card and Campedelli for dissent. Despite being a man down, Cesena continued to push, but Cagliari held on to the lead until the final whistle. An extremely important victory, a true team effort.”
