The Under-20s saw their victory slip away to Genoa due to a penalty in the final minutes. It was a bitter end for Pisano’s team, who had led the entire second half after Genoa’s early lead. It was in the sixth minute, when Lafont cleared a scramble following a cross from the left. Cagliari responded immediately, equalizing six minutes later through Mendy, who was ready to capitalize on a save from the goalkeeper on a Sugamele free kick. In the 42nd minute, Grandu’s attempt was deflected out for a corner by a defender. Three minutes later, on a Sugamele cross, Mendy beat Baccelli to the post and scored.

The second half saw Genoa push forward in search of an equalizer, but Cagliari came close to scoring a third with a header from Goryanov, which Baccelli responded with a flourish. In the 72nd minute, Kehayov imitated his colleague, saving a powerful left-footed volley from Lafont. Cagliari held firm, but in the 88th minute, Doppio brought down Klisys in the box. Buredini converted the penalty, wrong-footing Kehayov. With six minutes of added time, Baccelli denied Mendy again, following a move by Trepy. With this point, Cagliari moves to 22 points in the standings. In the next round, the Rossoblu will host Inter on Sunday at the CRAI Sport Center (11 a.m.).
