Cagliari suffered a defeat in Pisa, where the Nerazzurri prevailed thanks to Moreo’s early penalty and Caracciolo’s brace at the start of the second half. Pavoletti’s goal in the middle of the second half was in vain. Next Friday, the Nerazzurri return to action in Cagliari against Napoli.
THE CHOICES
In defense in front of Caprile are Zè Pedro, Mina, Dossena, and Obert. In the middle, Adopo and Sulemana flank Gaetano. Palestra on the right with Kilicsoy and Folorunsho up front.
DIFFICULT START
Pisa got off to a better start, opening the scoring with a Moreo penalty in the 9th minute. In the 12th minute, Obert headed Palestra’s cross against the post, and Sulemana headed the ball wide from the tap-in. Cagliari responded well but failed to break through. The match was a tense and fragmented affair, with a key incident in the 38th minute when Durosinmi was sent off for a foul on Mina when the ball was far away: the referee saw it immediately and had no doubts. Cagliari continued to look for a revival. The first half ended intensely with Nicolas saving from Obert, whose low left-footed shot hit the far post, then Caprile made a decisive save from Hojholt in front of goal at the end. After 6 minutes of added time, the half went to halftime.
PAVOLETTI’S GOAL
After halftime, Zappa and Pavoletti came on for Adopo and Mina. But Pisa continued to push forward and scored twice in a matter of minutes, in the 52nd and 54th minutes, with Caracciolo first capitalizing on a misplaced back pass and then slotting home from a corner. The Rossoblu were in total darkness, but in the 66th minute, Pavoletti found the net from a through ball that restored a glimmer of hope. Shortly before that, Trepy and Mazzitelli came on for Kilicsoy and Gaetano.
THE RESULT DOESN’T CHANGE
Trepy had a great chance in the 70th minute, volleying a left-footed shot from inside the box poorly wide. In the 74th minute, Dossena rose to the top of the box but headed just wide. Albarracin also made his Serie A and Italian football debut, starting No. 20 in place of Zè Pedro. The match effectively ended in the 81st minute with Obert sent off: already booked for simulation early in the second half, he committed a foul and received a second yellow. Caprile did well to stop Moreo at the start of injury time. Pisa won 3-1.
