Cagliari fell to Monza, defeated 4-0 at the end of a tough match. The rossoblù created several chances in the first half, but were blocked by an alert Törnqvist. After taking the lead at the end of the first half, Monza extended their lead at the beginning of the second half and ended the match with a heavy result.
For the first ten minutes, Monza controlled possession, with Cagliari waiting. In the 16th minute, the “rossoblù” threatened through Romano, who unleashed a powerful left-footed shot from outside the box, narrowly missing. A minute later, the home side responded through Dany Mota, who raced into the box and fired toward goal, only to be saved by Caprile. In the 20th minute, Cagliari had another great chance: Nzola was passed vertically and found himself one-on-one with Törnqvist, who excelled in a split save. In the 27th minute, the “rossoblù” threatened again with Mendy, who fired diagonally from close range, but the Monza goalkeeper again denied. Five minutes before halftime, the home side took the lead: Dany Mota played a vertical pass to Kouadio, who broke away on the counter and beat Caprile with a powerful right-footed shot, sending the ball through his legs. The break ended with Monza leading 1-0.
Monza immediately doubled their lead at the start of the second half: Ondoa fed Varela, who beat Caprile with a perfect right-footed diagonal shot. The home side’s third goal arrived in the 66th minute, with Robinson charging into the box after Varela’s pass and sending a right-footed shot past the “rossoblù” keeper. Monza continued to push, and in the 72nd minute Colpani came close to scoring, but his curling left-footed shot hit the post. The fourth goal arrived in the 79th minute: Varela was the quickest to tap the ball in after Robinson hit the post from distance, completing his second. Cagliari looked to score in the closing stages through Deiola, who crossed for Kevin Carlos: the striker attempted a sliding save, but the home goalkeeper was still there. A bitter evening ended 4-0.
