“I experienced the first goal as a liberation, even though the performances were not lacking. It’s a good period, and we need to make the most of it”: Cagliari striker Andrea Petagna gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport, available in today’s edition.
REPAYING THE TRUST
“I want to do well with this shirt, save myself, repay the trust of the President who brought me here, earn the chance to be redeemed by this club. I’ve been in 10 teams in my career, and moving has never weighed me down, but now I would like to stop moving and spend more time in one city.”
GOALS AND ASSISTS
“I like it when I have the ball, communicate with teammates. Being in the thick of the game, like an attacking playmaker. An assist can be as important as a goal. However, especially when we play with a lone striker, I have to get into the box more because that’s where you usually score. It’s what Mister Ranieri asks of me, an aspect I’m working on to improve. The Mister is like a father to all of us. He has always believed in me, defended me, and I want to repay the trust he has placed in me.”
UNITED FOR THE OBJECTIVE
“We are really a good group. The more experienced players are always there to lead all of us. I think, for example, of the captain: Pavoletti, at 35, has never missed a training session; he is a strong player, without injuries, he would have had an even greater career. The competitive level we all put in during training is high. The battle for survival is tough, it will last until the end. However, we are here.”
RELATIONSHIP WITH CAGLIARI
“I feel very good here. There is a good atmosphere; we have a wonderful sports center where you have everything: five fields, rooms to rest, a restaurant. I live in the city center; I brought my two dogs with me. One of the things I prefer about Cagliari? Being able to go to Poetto, take walks on the beach, even with them. A typical food? I say ‘seadas’.”
SWEET EXPECTATION
“I am with Carolina: she is 21, a very smart girl. She studied architecture, lived in Miami, speaks three languages. We are about to become parents of a baby boy, due in early March. It’s the first thought in the morning; we can’t wait.”
