Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the contract renewal of the player Leonardo Pavoletti, who has signed a new agreement with the club until 30 June 2026.
Livornese by birth, Cagliari by adoption, with goals in the fans’ hearts. Arriving in Sardinia in the summer of 2017, he celebrated his first home goal in red and blue in the 2-1 victory over Benevento. A goal scored as time expired, decisive, as ‘Pavoloso’ would be in Cagliari. Also at the end of that same championship, it was his goal at the ‘Franchi’ in Florence (0-1) that gave the three fundamental points for the conquest of salvation.
In the following season he scored an impressive 18 goals and made his debut with a goal in the national team. He is still a protagonist in the 2020-21 season, always in the net in key matches: in the away match against Crotone (0-2), in the home win against Parma (4-3) and again against Benevento, in the direct clash at the ‘Vigorito’ won 3-1.
There have been 189 matches played in red and blue so far, and among the 49 goals scored, the one scored on 11 June 2023 at the ‘San Nicola’ in Bari is already engraved in history: a playoff final, a 94th-minute strike that won the top division and sent the people into raptures. Prowess, iconic goals, such as the ones Pavoletti has repeated this season, author of a double – scoring in the 94th minute and 96th minute – for the Unipol Domus comeback victory against Frosinone (from 0-3 to 4-3). And yet again the three-point backhand goal – again in the dying minutes – to complete another comeback against Sassuolo (1-2).
Technical and moral qualities, leadership, charisma on the field and within the locker room, strong attachment to the jersey and to the island: Cagliari and its captain go forward together.
Congratulations, Leo!
