🎙️INTERVIEW | Deiola speaks to “La Nuova Sardegna”

Rossoblù captain Alessandro Deiola gave an exclusive interview to “La Nuova Sardegna”, on newsstands today. Below is an excerpt from his comments:

THE STRENGTH OF THE GROUP
“I was confident from the very beginning of the season because I immediately had the feeling that the new players had an excellent ability to adapt. Those feelings have been confirmed as we have played more games. I have exceptional teammates around me, strong players. But what stands out is that the strength of the group helps us achieve results.”

THE COACH
“Our relationship goes well beyond football. In fact, it is easy for me to work with him because we were teammates before and have known each other for a long time. We have been through many good and difficult situations together. As for his role as a coach, I can’t say he has surprised me because I know how much he has studied and prepared himself to become Cagliari’s coach. He has very interesting ideas and knows how to manage a group. In short, he is a coach who makes you enjoy both playing and training. But all of this was already evident last season.”

OVERCOMING DIFFICULT MOMENTS
“For a Sardinian, playing in this shirt comes with an added sense of responsibility, and expectations are always higher. In the past, I struggled with criticism. But I worked hard on myself to overcome it rather than let it affect me. Criticism is part of the game, and constructive criticism has helped me grow. But when criticism turns into hatred, that is no longer support. In any case, I have played more than 200 games for Cagliari, with many coaches who have put their trust in me. That must mean something.”

MANY LEADERS
“Wearing the captain’s armband makes me happy and proud. I think I prepared myself to understand how a captain should behave by also following the example of the captains I had in the past. But I have to say that there are many captains at Cagliari, because the real captain is the group. And we are truly very united. I am always there for my teammates.”

FOR THE FANS
“We are experiencing some wonderful days. We are doing something magical. Maybe comparing ourselves to the Rossoblù of 1970 would be excessive. We have to stay calm and, above all, humble, and focus on taking things one game at a time. Serie A is extremely tough, and if you let your guard down even for a moment, you can pay the price. We are enjoying these results and we are happy for the fans, who deserve to experience this moment given the sacrifices they make to follow us and the passion with which they support us.”
