On the sidelines of the AIC Goal of the Year award ceremony, presented to Alessandro Deiola this evening in Milan as part of the “Gran GalĂ del Calcio”—the event organized each year by the Italian Footballers’ Association to recognize footballing excellence from the previous season (HERE)—the RossoblĂą midfielder spoke to the media.
VERY PROUD
Receiving this award is a source of pride and a great feeling: I thank the club, the teammates who contributed to the goal; the award is theirs too. I thank the fans, everyone who voted for me. It’s wonderful to be here today: to represent my homeland, to bring this award to Sardinia. Last season ended in the best possible way, thanks in part to this beautiful goal, scored alongside my teammates. The hope for this year is to repeat that feat and, perhaps, score more goals like it. The FIFA Puskas Award? We’ll see; it’s already a source of pride to have been ranked in the top 11 of the world’s greatest goals last season.
THE COACH
“I know Mr. Pisacane very well; he’s very eager. He embodies what he was as a player: he brought his ideas, he worked and studied hard for this moment, to be ready. He’s proving to be a well-prepared coach. We’ll continue to follow him on this path; he has the right ideas and concepts. We need to put them into practice as best we can. I wish him a great career; that’s what he deserves.”
THE MATCHES IN NAPLES AND AGAINST ROMA
Sunday will be an important match for us: we’ll be playing against a great team, one that’s proving its worth. They have quality players and a good coach. We want to do well, we’re playing at home and have a goal to achieve, so we’ll prepare as best we can. But first we have to think about the Coppa Italia: we’ll go to Naples with the right mindset, aiming to advance. The schedule isn’t easy, so we need to stay focused. My goal? To help the team as much as possible to achieve our goals and try to improve myself day after day.
