Rossoblu defender Sebastiano Luperto, who also put in an excellent performance in Florence, spoke exclusively to Radio TV Serie A. This is an excerpt of his words:

THE ROAD TO THE GOAL
“We’ve done well so far; 25 points in 22 games is a good haul. But the championship is far from over. We haven’t achieved anything yet; there’s a lot of fighting and sweat to do to reach our goal as quickly as possible. We’ve found a balance that we’ll have to maintain in the next few games, starting Saturday; it’s crucial. The coach is giving us a lot of advice; he’s found the right key. In recent games, we’ve shown how much we care about staying up, when we’re so determined to keep our goals, to sacrifice ourselves for our teammates.”

THE COACH
“With the coach and the staff, we analyze a lot of mistakes, the areas we need to improve on, even on an individual level. He knows the Cagliari environment very well, the dynamics, the keys we need to touch with us. He’s giving us a great hand in organizing the game, and that’s making the difference. He’s immediately established a great rapport with everyone; he’s a coach who always seeks discussion.”

ABOUT THE TEAMMATES
“Palestra has great potential, he’s proving it: he’s got pace, he doesn’t just play on the wing, but can also get inside because he knows how to use both feet. Marco is a fifth-choice player who can do great things in this Serie A, even at the highest level. He’s a great guy, he always has the right attitude, he knows how to function in the locker room. The future is on his side. Mina? Yerry and I are getting to know each other better and better. When you play together for more games, the understanding grows, which is very important for a defensive pair: for example, you understand when your teammate is having trouble, how you can help him and vice versa, how he can help you.”

UNA TERRA, UN POPOLO, UNA SQUADRA
“There’s an incredible spirit in Cagliari, a strong identity, and the people transmit it to you on and off the pitch. It’s a special feeling I feel in every match: the warmth, the support our fans give us. I’m truly grateful for that. You have an entire region behind you, an island that pushes you on: it’s something I’ve never experienced in my career. Especially during international breaks, we sometimes travel up to two and a half hours from Cagliari to play friendlies and visit our fans at home. It’s also a way to repay them for their sacrifices; they make so much to support us, home and away, when they have to take a plane or a boat from the island. Their support is always there in every match, and we’re proud of that; they give us a huge helping hand.”

WORK AND BALANCE
“Scoring goals for a defender? It’s a matter of predisposition, but there’s also a lot of study with the staff: we analyze set pieces and the opponent’s weaknesses to exploit our own strengths. I’m a very balanced guy; I always try to stay focused and do the best I can. Favorite Sardinian dish? Fregula, but there are so many good dishes here, from malloreddus to culurgiones. The sea? The sea in Sardinia is spectacular, the best in Italy for me. But the sea in Salento comes second.”
