🎙️INTERVIEW | Obert to Sky Sport

Cagliari and Slovakian national team defender Adam Obert spoke exclusively to Sky Sport. These are his words:

RESULTS AS A MOTIVATION FOR GROWTH
“The moment is good, but we know we can’t let our guard down. Serie A is tough, you always have to give your all, otherwise problems arise, and we certainly don’t want that. We must continue on this path, with the same focus and hunger. We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and perhaps at times the results haven’t been our strength, but we always told ourselves to be patient; thanks to that daily work, the rewards would come. The results we’ve achieved, in any case, must be a motivation to continue improving our performance.”

CONTINUITY AND CONFIDENCE
“I’m finding consistency and confidence. I’m pleased. I’m managing to express myself at my best, as I had perhaps dreamed of doing in previous years, but I wasn’t always 100%. Now, game after game, I’m adding things, improving, and helping the team. When I chose Cagliari five years ago, I knew it would be the right place for me, to grow, improve, and learn new things. And that’s how it’s going, also thanks to the faith that Coach Pisacane is placing in me.”

COACH’S ADVICE
“I have a great relationship with him; he’s helping me a lot. Even in overcoming difficulties, like I did at the beginning of the year. We’ve come out of it, and I’m happy. The coach and I know each other very well: we started working together back in Serie B, when he was on Liverani’s staff. We immediately established a great relationship, and he helped me a lot there too, both me and the other players. He gave us a lot of advice, especially to us younger players; at first, we might have struggled with the transition to the first team. And he continues to do this today: the coach really knows how to work very well.”

THE BEST FOR THESE COLORS
“I have a strong bond with this team, with this land. From the moment I arrived here, I immediately understood what it means to wear this jersey, what this team represents for the people, for Sardinia. That’s why I always try to give my all for this land; I’m grateful for the opportunity it’s giving me. I try to repay it on the pitch by giving my all.”

THE MATCH AT THE OLIMPICO
“We know how tough it is to play at the Olimpico against Roma, a great team with a lot of quality. It will be very tough. We’ll have to prepare very well for this match, taking to the pitch with the same attitude we’ve had in recent weeks, and going there without fear.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY
“Yes, I come from a family of athletes. My grandfather was a soccer player, even wearing the national team jersey. My dad played soccer, as did my brother, and my mom played basketball. My family taught me a lot, both personally and athletically. When I was little, we all played together; we had fun. My dad’s dream was for me to reach the highest levels, but he hadn’t achieved that. Although both he and my mom have since gone on to other great careers—they’re lawyers. They’re happy for me; we have a great relationship. It’s not easy to see each other often: they have to get here from Slovakia, they have their jobs, and there are flights to catch. But sometimes they come to visit me and watch me play. I also get to see them during the national team break; it’s always nice.”

SIMPLICITY AND AMBITION
“I like going to the movies, going out for dinner every now and then, and driving, now that I finally got my driving license. Simple things. I’m a quiet, very sociable guy. On the pitch, I’m not one to settle: I’m ambitious, I always set new goals, week after week. I want to keep growing, improving, helping the team more, maybe even with a few more assists, a few goals. How wonderful it is to celebrate under the Curva!”
