First Team - 12/02/2025

Tommaso Augello gave an interview to “La Gazzetta dello Sport,” on newsstands today. The red-and-blue full-back talked about his career: a steady growth that took him from the lower divisions to Serie A. His relationship with Cagliari, the importance of securing their place in the top tier. Below is an extract of his words:

From Serie D to Serie A
“I grew up in Cimiano, in Milan, their sports center is 200 meters from my house. When they awarded me for my career a couple of weeks ago, it was really an emotional moment. Everything started from there. Then, at 16, I went to play for Pontisola in Serie D: right away, you were competing with teammates and opponents much older than you. And that’s how the lower divisions made me grow quickly. It was a climb: Serie C with Giana, Serie B with Spezia, and then the dream of Serie A. Football is my life, and the Serie A I earned at 25 with hard work is the greatest achievement.”

GREAT HUMAN VALUES
“Cesare Albè took me to Giana, he was like a father to me. He taught me principles, education, and respect. The same values my parents instilled in me. Then, Spezia bought me, and I have to thank Pasquale Marino and Guido Angelozzi, who helped me a lot when my father passed away. From there, the move to Serie A, still in Liguria, but at Sampdoria, where I made my debut with coach Ranieri: to me, he’s like Cesare Albè for champions, a world-class talent with great human values.”

TOWARDS THE GOAL
“With coach Nicola, Cagliari made a targeted choice: they identified a very important coach profile, a person with excellent human qualities. Felici impressed me: he has important qualities, flair, and competitive spirit. Zappa? He’s like a brother to me, we’re inseparable. The National Team? Everyone dreams of it. But for me, it’s crucial to stay in Serie A, and I hope to do so with Cagliari. We will make it, and I’m ready to renew.”

LIFE ON THE ISLAND
“I’m very happy in Cagliari, the quality of life is very high. I live at Poetto, I love waking up in front of the sea. I live with my partner Martina, we’ve been together for 12 years. She’s a psychologist, she’s finishing her psychotherapy school, and now she’s commuting between Milan and Cagliari. Love comes before everything.”
