Azzi to “Videolina Sport”

Interviews - 05/05/2024

Paulo Azzi was a guest in the Videolina studios during the ‘Videolina Sport’ programme. In the sights of AC Milan, next Saturday at 20.45, in the eyes and mind the match against Lecce.

TODAY’S MATCH
‘There is bitterness for how it ended, we had approached the match well, we were playing well and we were deservedly ahead. After the expulsion it got complicated, we suffered together, and in the end we worked to finish with a precious point, which is not a foregone conclusion given the way it had gone. The red on Gaetano? I’m sorry, there was no malice, from the bench the impression was that the referee had interpreted Gianluca’s intervention as not being malicious, then the review was made on the monitor’.

TO KEEP FIGHTING
“We must complete the work, there’s suffering and struggle involved, we all know it, we constantly remind ourselves, and we’re all on it. The coach consistently tells us that we must be good at leaving the field knowing we’ve given our best, there’s no time for regrets, let’s look at things positively and think about the next one, working every day. My performance today? I came on to help out on the wing against Almqvist, in the goal situation I could have done better in the one-on-one, it’s a shame but I’ll learn from this too.”

THE MATCH AGAINST MILAN
“We’ll go to Milan with the same spirit as always, with the desire to give it our all regardless of the opponent. Milan is a very strong team with very important players. We need points, we’ve already performed well in Milan against Inter, we must continue to fight together and only then can we achieve our goal. Surely the three games against top-tier teams like Atalanta, Inter, and Juventus have given us confidence and belief in our abilities.”

THE PERSONAL JOURNEY
“In football as in life, it’s not just talent or willpower. There’s something that drives us: some call it luck, others destiny, I don’t know. What I do know is that I’m driven by my faith, from above, and this gives me values that guide me every day, like respect for others and the value we attribute to those around us and with whom we interact. I’ve made my way, after Covid, I decided to go to Serie D and from there I climbed back up with Modena and then arrived at Cagliari. A year ago, I talked about my goal, which was to reach Serie A with Cagliari. I succeeded with the team, and now I want to stay there, I’m having a season with a good number of appearances, and I want to improve. I know how much this island and its people care about Cagliari, at home and away we have an incredible strength from the support of the fans, and that’s what we need to build our momentum on, the people never abandon us. In Serie A, technically and athletically, the level is very high, you can’t afford mistakes, personally, I’m working a lot with Ranieri and the staff to improve those decisions that can be crucial on the field.”
