Cagliari at Memorial “Krystian Popiela”

Cagliari Calcio will take part in the “Krystian Popiela” Memorial, an international youth football tournament organized in Poland by the Foundation of the same name in memory of the young footballer who wore the rossoblù Primavera shirt.

Krystian, born in 1998, arrived in Sardinia at the age of 17 and made his debut in the Primavera championship in January 2016, contributing to the team’s playoff run in the second half of that season and earning recognition for his human qualities off the pitch as well. Polite and always smiling, he quickly earned everyone’s affection and respect. Having returned to Poland to pursue his football career, the news of his tragic death, due to a car accident, shook the entire Rossoblu community.

The Memorial, reserved for baby footballers born since 2015, scheduled in Skawina (near Krakow) from 30 to 31 May, will be an opportunity to pay homage to “Popy” and hug his family. The Club participates in the tournament with its U11 team, coached by mister Fabio Pisanu, assisted by technical collaborator Matteo Murru.

On the path of the young rossoblù, involved in the qualifying group for the next phase, there will be the Polish teams of the same age of Akademia Skawina, Wisła Kraków and Śląsk Wrocław, as well as the Greek team of Panathinaikos. The tournament also involves other foreign professional clubs such as Valencia CF and FC Dynamo Kyiv.
