Caprile is from Cagliari

First Team - 07/01/2025

Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the acquisition of the right to the sporting services of player Elia Caprile, who moves from Napoli on loan until the end of the 2024-25 season, with an option to buy.

Born in Verona in 2001, the newly signed goalkeeper for Cagliari grew up in the Chievo youth academy. In January 2020, he was acquired by English club Leeds United, where, in addition to quickly joining the first team, he also played for the Under-23 side, helping them win the league title. In the summer of 2021, he returned to Italy on loan with Pro Patria (Serie C), where he made his professional debut. He played 39 matches and kept 13 clean sheets, contributing to the team’s progression to the second round of the Playoffs.

The following season, he was acquired by Bari in Serie B. In Puglia, he was one of the standout revelations of the tournament: out of 43 matches, he kept a clean sheet 16 times and led the team with his saves all the way to the return leg of the Playoff final, where he was beaten only by a goal from Pavoletti in the 94th minute.

His performances earned him a promotion to the top flight: in July 2023, he was purchased by Napoli, who immediately loaned him to Empoli. On August 19, he made his Serie A debut, playing 24 matches and playing a crucial role in helping the Tuscan side secure survival under coach Nicola. After returning to Napoli last summer, he made his debut for the Partenopei on September 21 in the 0-0 draw against Juventus. Between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, he has played 6 matches so far this season, keeping a clean sheet in 4 of them.

He has played for the Italian youth national teams, starting with the U18s, and later the U21s, making his debut on September 26, 2022, in the 0-0 draw between Italy and Japan.

Despite his imposing physical stature – standing at 191 centimeters – Caprile is agile and reactive. Confident between the posts, he combines his technical skills with innate explosive power. A modern goalkeeper, he is skilled in both low and high crosses, and is also proficient with his feet, a quality that allows him to contribute to building play from the back or quickly initiate counterattacks when needed.

Personality, reliability, and a desire to grow: welcome to Sardinia, Elia!
