Rossoblù sports director Nereo Bonato spoke to the microphones of Radio Sportiva. These are his words:
UNITY AND COMPACTNESS
“Compared to the beginning of the season this team has made a very important path of growth: some adjustments were made in the January market, but above all there was a newfound compactness after the home defeat against Lazio. On the one hand, the President with his hot intervention in the post-match period immediately renewed the confidence of the whole team and, at the same time, called the whole team to give their best for the cause; on the other hand, the breezy resignation of the Coach gave a jolt to the team from which to start again and lay the foundations to face the following matches with a new momentum. From there another championship started for us: the results obtained allowed us to get fully back into the salvation struggle, we now hope that these last five days will confirm the upward trend.”
THE SALVATION FIGHT
“Before the last triptych of matches – against three clubs like Atalanta, Inter and Juventus – the feelings were probably negative, it would be false to say otherwise. But we faced one match at a time, trying to bring our best inside the field, unlike what we did in the first half of the season: thus, we won some heavy points against the big names in the league. Five points have arrived: they have brought us to a position in the standings that, before these three matches, we did not expect even we could reach: now we have to confirm ourselves, there will be a fight to the end because this year the salvation struggle is extended to so many clubs.”
THE VALUE OF THE ROSTER
“Has the value of Cagliari’s squad grown? It’s pleasing, this roster was created according to principles: technical competitiveness to aim to achieve our goal, economic sustainability and capitalization. So many of our youngsters were entering Serie A for the first time, we invested in young prospects who, precisely, could grow over the course of the year. We are quite satisfied, we will be totally satisfied if we can achieve salvation.”
ALWAYS IMPROVING
“I arrived in Cagliari 16 months ago, we started a journey: at the first attempt fortunately we managed to return to Serie A. Now we have to take another step, to win permanence in the category, a fundamental goal we all care so much about. The third step would be consolidation in the top series: the club wants to maintain this working group, with the coach and his staff, and seek constant and continuous improvement as we continue.”
THE NEW STADIUM
“The stadium is a crucial issue for us; it is a public work that will remain in the availability of the community, but it will still be financed for the most part by a private entity. It would be a good calling card for Cagliari and the whole island. In Cagliari, as in any case throughout Italy, there is a lot of bureaucracy, we have arrived at the last technical steps: we hope to overcome those and then go out to tender with the project.”
HEAD TO THE TARGET
“The loans? Meanwhile, we have to achieve our goal, then we will deal with the rest, understanding the will of the players and the clubs they belong to. On Mina it’s a situation already defined: we have an extension option in our favor for another year, it will depend on the category, on reaching salvation. Scuffet? He signed 3 years with us and is part of the group: right now we are all focused on reaching a goal that we knew was difficult and complicated. We have put ourselves in a good position, but we have to be good at concretizing this path.”
