Cagliari Calcio’s General Manager, Stefano Melis, spoke to Sky Sport and DAZN before the Cagliari-Inter match at the Unipol Domus. He explained the club’s position on the initiative, which saw the starting eleven players don white t-shirts with a letter, lining up side by side to spell out the words “Human Rights.” A video of Paolo Fresu playing his “Inno alla Vita” was then shown on the big screen just before the match began, an unequivocal message of hope and a reminder of the value of fundamental human rights.
THE WORDS OF STEFANO MELIS, GENERAL MANAGER OF CAGLIARI
“The message is clear and unequivocal,” said Melis. “Ours is a club with a strong commitment to social issues and is no stranger to this type of initiative, fully in line with our BeAsOne ethical manifesto. For years, we’ve had a section of the Curva Futura in our stadium dedicated exclusively to children. We champion the founding values of sport, and every club must amplify and promote them. We want to raise awareness of what we’re experiencing internationally and the current situation, which certainly deserves attention.”
“Ours sends a clear message of support for human rights,” Melis continues. “Our Club is no stranger to these displays of support. Today, we wanted to give strength with a message of peace, including Paolo Fresu’s “Hymn to Life.” What’s happening internationally cannot leave us indifferent.”

During the Cagliari-Inter match, an exclusive video featuring Paolo Fresu will be shown on the giant screen at the Unipol Domus: the renowned Sardinian trumpeter, wearing the red and blue jersey, will perform his “Hymn to Life,” a universal message of hope and an unequivocal reminder of the value of fundamental human rights. Furthermore, before the warm-up, the eleven starters posed at center field wearing special jerseys: letter after letter, they will spell out “HUMAN RIGHTS.” This symbolic gesture sends a clear message: may international crises find a path to peace as soon as possible, putting an end to all forms of violence and the suffering of civilians.
