The friendly match between Union Berlin and Cagliari, played in Germany at the end of the Rossoblu’s preseason training camp, ended in a draw. Fabio Pisacane’s team, leading by two goals until the final minutes, was equalized by the home side in the closing stages.
The first half of the game was characterized by a rather slow pace and few opportunities on both sides. Cagliari tries to build the game with patience and in the 32nd minute they come close to taking the lead with Romano, who receives from Winks and concludes from the edge of the area, finding the response from Gagzow. Five minutes later it was Trepy who had a good opportunity following an action built by Fazzini, but his shot ended wide.
The Rossoblu took the lead early in the second half. In the 49th minute, Fazzini set up Trepy again, who this time beat the opposing goalkeeper with a precise lob to make it 1-0.
As the minutes passed, Pisacane revolutionized the team through numerous changes and in the 67th minute Cagliari also doubled their lead. Mendy receives the ball on the edge of the area, beats some opponents with a personal progression and finishes with precision past Gagzow.
Union Berlin increased the pressure towards the end and reopened the game in the 85th minute when Ansah headed home a throw-in. A few minutes later, Rodriguez was down following a collision, but the situation was quickly resolved and the Uruguayan defender was able to continue.
Deep into injury time, Ansah scored the final goal to tie the game 2-2, heading past Sherri. The home side also came close to overtaking the opposition through Jeong, who was denied by the Rossoblu goalkeeper, while Cagliari also came close to winning through Mendy, with Gagzow’s save proving decisive.
