INTERVIEW | Esposito with Sky Sport

Sebastiano Esposito spoke to Sky Sport about his personal situation and the team’s preparations for the Bergamo match. Below is an extract of his words.

TEAM NEWS
“I’m definitely enjoying a good run of goals, but overall I think I’m putting in good performances with the team. I don’t think we’ve ever been completely lacking in performance, regardless of the goals we’re scoring. The win against Roma helped us gain confidence and awareness, something we’ve been missing for a long time. We’re a young group that’s performing well in Serie A. We’re showing we have the right skills and a hunger for success. We need to keep going like this to achieve more and more results like last Sunday’s.”

STRONG GROUP
“I found a healthy, strong group with many friends. There’s a solid core that’s been built up over the years. I’m really happy in Cagliari, a beautiful city, with the sea, which is always a plus for me, having traveled extensively in Italy and abroad. Here we have all the ingredients to do well. In Bergamo, we’ll be supported by many fans, which gives us extra motivation to try and bring home points. We want to bring more satisfaction to our fans.”

ESPOSITO FAMILY
“My brothers and I are definitely talked about a lot; we have a special bond. We stay in touch a lot, especially during difficult times, which fortunately have been very few lately. I wish my brother Salvatore a speedy recovery from his injury. Overall, we’re very close beyond football and we support each other on and off the pitch. My experience leading Voluntas Brescia? We took over the club where we grew up because we want as many young people, both there and where we were born, to have opportunities in sport and in life, keeping many young people off the streets and away from the bad influences that can lead to less than desirable situations.”

FUTURE OF THE BLUES
“The national team is everyone’s dream, but now I’m thinking about Cagliari because the blue jersey depends on what you do with your club. It would be fantastic to play for Italy alongside my brothers, but everything will depend on what I do well here in Cagliari. For me, football is everything. I watch tons of games; it’s always been a defining feature of my life, and it always will be, I’m sure of that.”
