Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the acquisition of the right to the sporting services of the player Sebastiano Luperto, who transfers from Empoli on a permanent basis and has signed a contract that will bind him to the Rossoblù club until June 30, 2028.
Born in Lecce, class of 1996, he grew up in his hometown team with which he made his debut in the Coppa Italia on August 4, 2013. In that same summer he was bought by Napoli, which attached him to the Primavera formation: with the partenopei he made his Serie A debut against AC Milan on May 3, 2015.
At the end of the 2015/16 season, he went on loan to Pro Vercelli, in Serie B, and made 32 appearances. This was followed by a loan to Empoli, where he won promotion to Serie A as a star player with 28 games, 2 goals and 1 assist, and then a return to Napoli. In Azzurri, he collects 27 total appearances between Serie A, Europa League and Champions League, where he makes his debut in the 3-2 win at home to Red Bull Salzburg on October 23, 2019.
After a season on loan to Crotone, in the summer of 2021 he returned to the ranks of Empoli where he became a mainstay and captain of the team: in three seasons with the Tuscans over 100 appearances, his first goal in Serie A – sealed on January 28, 2023 in the 2-2 draw against Torino – and above all three consecutive salvations.
A versatile and physically well-rounded left-handed central defender, he is also capable of contributing to the initiation of offensive action in the build-up phase. His reading of the game is excellent, thanks to his excellent positioning on the field; solidity in contrasts and one-on-one situations is among his trademarks.
Experience, reliability and leadership to reinforce the red-blue rearguard.
Welcome to Sardinia, Sebastiano!
