Maldini signs for Cagliari

Cagliari Calcio are delighted to announce the signing of Daniel Maldini, who joins the Rossoblù from Atalanta BC on loan, with an option to buy that becomes an obligation to buy subject to certain sporting conditions.

Born in Milan in 2001, Maldini came through the AC Milan youth academy before making his first-team debut at just 18 years of age, on 2 February 2020 against Verona. The following season, he made nine appearances between the UEFA Europa League and Serie A, before continuing his progression. In the 2021/22 season, he made his UEFA Champions League debut away to Liverpool on 15 September 2021. Just a few days later, he scored his first professional goal in the away win against Spezia. It was a pivotal season for Maldini: he made 13 appearances and played his part in winning the Scudetto.

In the summer of 2022, he joined Spezia on loan, making 20 appearances and scoring 3 goals. After a spell at Empoli, he then moved to Monza, where he made 32 appearances and scored 7 goals. His performances also earned him a call-up to the Italian national team, for whom he has currently made 6 appearances.

In February 2025, he joined Atalanta on a permanent deal. During his time in Bergamo, he made 22 appearances and scored three goals. He spent the final part of last season at Lazio, making 10 appearances and scoring twice.

A well-built player standing 188 cm tall, Maldini is a versatile footballer with excellent technical ability. He can operate as an attacking midfielder, on the wing or, when required, as a central midfielder. He possesses good vision, is particularly effective in one-on-one situations and has an excellent shot. Thanks to his qualities, he is capable of creating opportunities for himself with ease or putting his teammates in the best possible position to score.
