Cagliari came back strongly in the second half and almost took the lead immediately: after three minutes, Mlacic had to make a clear off the line to deny Esposito. Shortly after, Zaniolo also came alive, hitting the post with a powerful left-footed shot after a deflection off Caprile. The game changed in the 58th minute: Solet played Kamara through, who did well to slip behind the Rossoblu defense and feed Buksa into the middle, who made it 1-0 from close range. Cagliari attempted to respond by increasing the tempo and relying on substitutions, but Udinese remained compact and conceded little space. The Rossoblu came close to equalizing with a header from Dossena, cleared off the line by Karlstrom, and especially with Mendy, whose shot from a great position was blocked by Bertola. The visitors had several counterattack opportunities in the closing stages to seal the match. After several missed opportunities, Gueye found the net with an assist from Davis, sealing the score at 0-2.

The match ended in a tense atmosphere, with nerves especially at the end. Udinese took home a valuable victory thanks to a solid and consistent performance, while Cagliari paid the price for their lack of composure in front of goal and missed chances in the second half.
