Palomino to Cagliari

First Team - 13/08/2024

Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the acquisition of the registration rights of defender José Luis Palomino, who signs an agreement with the club until 30 June 2025 with an option for the following season.

Born in 1990 in San Miguel de Tucumán (Argentina), he began his professional career with San Lorenzo, where he grew up and where he played for four seasons (48 appearances with the first team). After a season at Argentinos Juniors (18 appearances in 2013/2014), he moved to France, to Metz (59 appearances and 4 goals from 2014 to 2016), and then to Bulgaria, to Ludogorets, with whom he totalled 41 appearances and 2 goals in the 2017/2018 season.

In the summer of 2017, he began his long adventure with Atalanta, and would be an absolute protagonist of the club’s successes. With the Bergamaschi, he becomes a pillar of the defence, contributing decisively to writing memorable pages, including the historic Champions League qualification. In total, with the Nerazzurri jersey, he played 225 matches with 9 goals and 5 assists to his credit.

Seasons, the Bergamasque ones, in which he showed everyone his qualities: solidity, leadership and great ability to read the game in both phases. An experienced and physically fit central defender, Palomino is known for his ability in aerial duels, his sense of position and his determination on the pitch, characteristics that allow him to adapt to the various configurations of the rearguard, interpreting at best a football made of intensity and forward aggression. He can be deployed both in a three-man defence and in a four-man line, thanks to his versatility and tactical intelligence.

Leadership, personality and international experience make him an important reinforcement for the red-blue defence, bringing quality and security to the backroom.

Welcome in Sardegna, José Luis!
