Rossoblù midfielder Harry Winks spoke to the media following the match against Juventus at the Unipol Domus. Here is what he had to say:
AN IMPORTANT POINT
“There was disappointment in the dressing room at the end of the game because we hadn’t managed to win it. And I think that says a lot about what we’re doing. We came really close, and it would have been a great result after a good performance. However, we’ve still drawn against a top team like Juventus, and we mustn’t forget that. We should be proud of that. It’s an important point.”
CONFIDENCE AND HUMILITY
“We’re still at the beginning of the season, with plenty of games ahead of us, so we always need to keep our feet firmly on the ground. We’re improving, we have a lot of quality, but above all, we’re a team that works hard and remains humble. We know exactly what our objective is this season, which is to stay in Serie A. First, we need to secure our survival; then, anything that comes after that would be fantastic, but everything in its own time. The important thing is to always remain humble and true to ourselves.”
STRENGTH IN THE GROUP
“Me, the brain of this team? We’re a great group. I play alongside some really good, intelligent footballers, and we have a great manager. His approach to the game suits everyone. We play with courage, aggression and humility, and I think that’s the best way for us to play. The manager is always looking to help us improve and, whenever we can, he asks us to dominate the game. Of course, that’s not always possible, but that’s our approach, and I really enjoy playing in this team. I like being here. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the people are wonderful. I’m learning Italian now, so it’ll take a few months before I can speak it properly, but everything is great. I enjoy working with the team, the manager and the staff. The way we’ve started the season has been an added bonus.”
THE COACH’S QUALITIES
“The manager is very demanding. Every day, he reminds us how important it is to work hard and fight for the Club. That comes before everything else. In my opinion, he’s a top manager tactically, in the way we approach games, analyse our opponents and identify their weaknesses. He understands that we can’t always be the team in control of possession and that we can make technical mistakes. What he wants to see from us is the right attitude at all times, and he encourages us to play. He’s young and this is only his second season in Serie A, but our performances and the points we’ve collected so far are certainly no coincidence.”
FOCUS ON MONZA
“We have to take it one game at a time. We need to keep working hard and remain humble, without getting carried away by this first part of the season. Even today, earning this point was tough: we had to run and fight. Now our focus turns to Monza. It will be one of the toughest matches we’ve faced so far. They’re an aggressive team, and it’s a difficult ground, as I remember from my time at Sampdoria. We’ll need to be ready, but I have no doubt that we will be.”
