Davide Nicola commented to the media on the match at the “Penzo” against Venezia.
ABOUT THE MATCH
“We played a very important first half in terms of quality, intensity, and continuity. We allowed Venezia only one clear chance: they were good, but we weren’t as sharp. After that, we got frustrated. The first 15 minutes of the second half were tough for us, but then we regained our rhythm, scoring and coming close to another goal. I don’t see everything in a negative light; today it would be easy to do so. We might have expected to take points, and we deserved them. Venezia got more than they deserved on other occasions, and we hope that happens for us next time. We need to keep working, and we know that well.”
MORE CONCRETE
“This first half we’ve played against many opponents, not just today, which shows that we’re working in a certain way. We need to persist and improve our clinical finishing. We’re working on it, and now is not the time to place additional blame, because in these moments, calm is essential, even in accepting mistakes. we got frustrated after conceding and came back on the pitch not at our best. we’re working hard on focus and the ability to stay in the game. it’s not good to lose our cool and lose composure after going behind. we need to grow in understanding that football has many variables and it’s not just a matter of doing everything right. we move forward with confidence and the willingness to work and improve. we all know we have to do it, but without hysterics or excessive reactions.”
CONFIDENCE IN THE WORK
“We did well both with a striker and an attacking midfielder, and with two strikers and an attacking midfielder. i don’t forget anyone, and everyone is important. clearly, the choices depend on the moments and the matches, and substitutions are always judged afterwards, which is easy. i believe that today we tried to make the most of our qualities, both from the start and as the game went on. we need to move forward with great calm and the desire to analyze, work, and improve, without overreacting. everyone is growing; for example, felici is getting more and more playing time. we need to give our young players the time to develop without rushing them. we know that working with young players who need to grow requires trust, and i am confident in them.”
BALANCE AND RIGHT MENTALITY
“This job, whether coaching or playing, can’t be done by staying worried and thinking too much about the distant future. you work and you don’t give up. it’s too easy to get depressed and quit, or to get overly excited. this team has the means to achieve what it deserves. the goal-scoring issue should be seen in a constructive way, not just negatively. Mina? a little problem with his calf, we hope it’s nothing serious. but those who came on did their job. the fight for survival is extremely tight, we know that, more balanced than ever. we’ve won some direct confrontations and lost others, but we move forward with our mentality because, in the long run, I’m convinced it will pay off.”
