PRESS ROOM | Coach Pisacane after Atalanta-Cagliari

First Team - 14 December 2025

Mister Pisacane analyzed the away defeat against Atalanta to the media in this way. These are his words:

BITTER DEFEAT
“It’s disappointing to lose today because we conceded a goal, our second, which, considering how the game unfolded, is truly a shame. We were soft on Scamacca, who punishes you if you don’t deal with him properly. In the first half, we made mistakes, especially in transition down the right flank, and Lookman hurt us. That’s not good, and there’s something to be said for it, because there are too many games where we get praise but lose due to imperfections. We’ll have to work hard, myself first and foremost. Cagliari didn’t give up; they showed courage, and so there’s disappointment.”

A TEAM ON THE MOVE
“We played a good game. When you play here against a team like this, coming off a Champions League victory, you have to be ready to compete at their level. We did well, despite our difficulties in transition against Lookman, and they could have scored more times. In the second half, by switching the marking on him, we struggled much less. I’m pleased because we’re improving game by game, working hard and taking care of every aspect. I ask the lads to enjoy themselves and be attentive, which perhaps wasn’t the case with the second goal.”

WORK COUNTS
We didn’t prepare for the match to clear the penalty area; we move based on how they come at us. The Esposito-Folorunsho exchange then frees up the other player who comes in and makes an impact. I agree that we scored a great goal, so it’s doubly disappointing because we lost by two goals with a solid defense. You should never talk about luck or bad luck, but the result is the consequence of the work you do, of what you prepare. Today we made some mistakes, and that’s why we lost. If we talk about luck, then I should look objectively and honestly at the fact that Atalanta could have scored more goals in the first half. We did a lot of good things today, but it wasn’t enough. The second goal leaves me with enormous disappointment because it doesn’t do justice to what Cagliari did today.

THE PLAYERS
Gaetano has had a tough time physically, having had to miss the summer training camp. Today I wanted to keep the starting eleven against Roma, but he’s definitely fine and can make a difference during the game. He needs to stay focused, and I hope to start him soon. Borrelli sacrificed a lot and did what he had to. He left because we looked for more depth with Folorunsho’s physical work. We’re missing something to capitalize on what we’re producing, and we have to work hard to find it. The gym? Today’s generations thrive on applause and motivation. It’s good to read certain praise and perhaps find positive energy. I stand by my opinion, looking back at my own life, my generation, and I think we need to remain somewhat isolated, protected, and carefully analyze everything said about him. Marco can certainly do great things in the future, as he’s already doing.
