Rossoblu coach Fabio Pisacane met with the media after the match at the Stadio Olimpico to analyze the match against the Giallorossi. Here are his two statements:
GROWING FROM MISTAKES
“When you lose, it’s normal to say you can do more, myself first and foremost. Roma are known for their ability to fight for certain objectives, and there’s certainly a reason for that. I wouldn’t, however, speak of different categories because that would be unfair to my players. We were imprecise in managing some of our exits with the ball today: too much frenzy, not enough brilliance. Roma and the stadium are top-notch. But on the pitch, we left everything we had, and that’s important. We’ll analyze, work, and start again tomorrow, aiming to correct what didn’t work. Differences from the first leg? Among many, Roma had a very different attack today. Full stomachs? I wouldn’t say so, let’s not forget the opponent and we certainly emphasize that we made some mistakes, myself first and foremost, but today the difference is made by Roma’s values, their full-throttle start, our technical errors. When you play against Roma and the big teams, you have to be realistic and understand what you can do based on your possibilities, otherwise you come across as presumptuous. Today, we often made mistakes. choice, this certainly condemns us.”
ALWAYS FIGHT
I’m the team’s primary responsibility: I can’t give up, which is why I fought and ran with my players in front of the bench. We can’t help but leave everything we have on the pitch, as we did today. They say a team is the image and likeness of its coach, so I have to set the example and lead the way. I’m happy to receive compliments, and it’s the lads’ credit because the staff and I provide guidance and suggestions, but then they take to the field. Angelozzi says I’m calm? I thank him. I think I also have a healthy fear, which I believe is always needed to give everything and demand maximum commitment every day from everyone: from me, from the entire group, the staff, the people who work with us. We must always fight. I bring my experience as a Serie A player and my journey: I know Serie A is treacherous and you always have to be careful. We came to Rome hungry for points, not like those who had already won three games in a row. We lost because Roma are strong and because perhaps we didn’t do everything to our best.
THE PLAYERS
Gaetano’s playmaking ability? I think that’s his future. He has the personality to free himself and play under pressure. A team like Cagliari needs to try to pass the ball, and Gianluca allows us to do that. He’s convinced he can play there. We’ve been working toward that from afar. I’d already included him in that position at the start of the season against Bologna. He likes that position. This year he missed the training camp and struggled to get into condition. Now he’s growing and can definitely give us a big hand. Dossena? The sooner he plays, the better. If he hadn’t played today, he’d have arrived in a week with even more inactivity. You can find his fitness in the match, not just in training. Having played the whole game today is already good news. I’m happy with him. It’s clear he needs to improve. We could all have worked better on the defensive lines, but you only improve with work. The gym? It’s not up to me to say whether he’s fit for the national team. His performances are certainly there for all to see, but it’s up to coach Gattuso to make his assessments. I’m not implementing any particular management strategies with him. I try to be balanced in the good moments, like in the good ones. the less positive ones. Marco is very focused, he has quality, a family that supports him better than anyone else, I don’t have to do anything special with him that I don’t do with our many young players.”
UNITED TOWARDS THE GOAL
What is Pisacane giving to Cagliari and vice versa? He’s giving me a lot, as has been the case for many years. He allowed me to coach in Serie A straight away, and I have a great responsibility towards Cagliari, the Sardinians, and Sardinia. I’ve gotten to know the fans, the Sardinians: I hope to always have them by our side; they’re the only essential element for us, and I will always thank them. I try to convey seriousness and professionalism; together with the staff, we want to complete our mission. At the beginning of the season, there was certainly a lot of skepticism, as is normal, and I hope to be able to comment on the success of our mission at the end of the year.
