Rossoblu midfielder Alessandro Deiola met with the media after the match at Unipol Domus against Napoli. These are his words:
ALWAYS WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE
Let’s start again with our attitude: it’s crucial for us and must never be lacking. We can’t allow ourselves moments of blackout like we had in Pisa. We discussed it among ourselves during the week: we asked to go into retreat, we had to take responsibility and react, to unite even more. Today we returned to being that team that never gives up, we always stayed in the game. So let’s start from this: conceding a goal after just over a minute could have knocked us out. We reacted and tried to recover the game. We gave a significant response, first and foremost to ourselves. From now on, we’ll have to give 110% in every game to secure survival.
WELCOME BACK ALESSANDRO
I’m disappointed with the result and the difficult period we’re going through. Even tonight, I was certainly hoping for a different outcome. On the other hand, I’m happy to be back on the pitch. Being out was painful. It’s been three months, and it wasn’t easy: it was a tough injury, but from the sidelines, I’ve always tried to stay close to the team. I’ve really missed the pitch, but now I’m getting back into shape physically. The break comes at the right time: I’ll work to get my legs back in shape, give my contribution to the team, so we can come back stronger and reach our goal as soon as possible.
STRENGTH IN THE GROUP
“Did the team miss me? My teammates should answer for that. This season we’ve had to deal with many absences, but those who played gave their all to replace injured players, and they helped a lot without making anyone miss them. And that’s how we managed to get thirty points, which is no small feat. Now we need a little more courage; the league break will also help us work even harder, rediscovering some confidence, even up front. This team must always be hungry for points, starting with the match against Sassuolo. There must be a healthy fear that pushes you to always give your all and to keep your concentration high. We’ll need to work even harder and pay attention to the details.”
YOUTH GROWTH
“We’re a young group, and we more experienced players need to help our younger teammates develop properly. These are guys with significant qualities, with a bright future ahead of them, and they’ll be able to give us a huge hand in the final push. A training ground for the national team? We’re happy for him: he’s an important player for us, as well as being a great guy. Another goal of mine for Puskas? I’d be happy with a goal where I simply have to tap the ball into the net, but it’s the one that helps us stay up. I don’t want anything else.”
THE ROAD TO THE GOAL
We have to take it one game at a time, regardless of who we face. We’re in the final stages, and every game is a good way to add another piece to our goal. The league is tough, we know that. But this team has shown that when they have the right attitude, they can cause problems for anyone, even getting results against the odds. Let’s put today’s game behind us, this moment, and move on. Today was already a strong performance after Pisa. Napoli is certainly a great team, they deserve praise. The break is coming to work and consolidate ourselves even more, effectively recovering some of our key players. We need a final sprint; everything is in our hands: we are in charge of our destiny.”
