The Cagliari captain spoke to the media after the match against Monza at the “Brianteo” stadium. His statements:
BOUNCING BACK IMMEDIATELY
“Today was a major setback, a bad defeat, especially given the way it happened. What we did in the first half, when we certainly didn’t deserve to be trailing, was simply not enough. So far, we have earned points thanks to our attitude and focus: these are aspects that must never be missing. Instead, after conceding the second goal, we lost all of that. We became confused and collapsed. That must not happen.”
CONFIDENCE AND HUMILITY
“Today’s defeat must serve as a lesson: we weren’t that good before, and we aren’t poor now. We must never lose sight of our objective and what we need to do to secure survival. What we said to each other in the dressing room stays between us. This could be a defeat that does us good and brings us back down to earth. We need a dose of humility: without humility, you don’t get results.”
THE ROSSOBLÙ FAITHFUL
“I’m sorry, and I apologise to our fans. Even today, despite all the difficulties, so many of them travelled to support us, and they were fantastic. I’m truly sorry that we gave them, all our people, such disappointment. Are there similarities with last season’s defeat in Pisa? We can find them in our attitude, which was missing today, just as it was in that game. However, these are different matches, different teams and different seasons.”
LEARNING FROM OUR MISTAKES
“That’s football: one day you’re a phenomenon, the next you’re no good. We knew how difficult this match would be. We knew it would be a tough game and that we would need to pay particular attention to individual battles. Instead, we were too soft in precisely that respect. This defeat must serve as a lesson: a team like ours cannot afford to suffer a defeat like this.”
THE SAME ATTITUDE IN EVERY MATCH
“Now we need to lift our heads and focus immediately on the next game. It hurts, it’s painful, but we have to learn from this defeat. We must take it one game at a time, always showing the same determination, the same hunger, the desire to keep clean sheets and the same attitude, regardless of the opposition. That is what has enabled us to earn the points we have collected so far. If we maintain our attitude and do what the coach asks of us, we are a team that has already shown it can do well.”
