PRESS ROOM | Zappa with the media

First Team - 28/12/2024

“Let’s roll up our sleeves and keep working, improving all those details that are making the difference right now. Now, it’s all about focusing on Monza”: Cagliari winger Gabriele Zappa spoke to the media after the match against Inter.

ABOUT THE MATCH
“We played a good first half, holding our ground against a very strong team, and Scuffet was also great with some good saves. However, we expended a lot of energy, both physically and mentally, to withstand Inter. Playing against them is never easy: they attack with a lot of players, they move constantly, and they force you to adjust defensively all the time. For me, they are the strongest team in Serie A; they have the best strike partnership in the league. The second half started with a crazy goal from them, and we were also a bit unlucky because Luperto slipped and could have intercepted the shot. Their goal really knocked the wind out of us, and from that point, we couldn’t react”.

WORK AND PERSEVERANCE
“We’re going through a tough moment, and we’re aware of it. However, there was courage today as well; we gave our best. We need to keep working, staying focused. Are we worried about the standings? The real assessment is made at the end; the season is very long, and we are a team that never gives up. We’ll keep moving forward, giving everything as always, and continuing to believe in what we do. Because, sooner or later, things will pay off”.

REACTING NOW

“Losing 3-0 is never pleasant, especially at home. We’re sorry for the fans; we gave our best, but it wasn’t enough. In recent months, we’ve played well against everyone, with good performances even against the top teams: this should give us hope. We’re missing something, and we’ll analyze everything and react. We’ll start again from Monza: we hope it doesn’t turn out like it often has lately, with the opposing goalkeeper being the best player at the end of the match. We need to be able to convert the chances we create into goals; in the last few games, we’ve had plenty of opportunities. Against Monza, we have to take home the three points.”
