Cagliari Under-20 suffered a defeat, defeated 5-2 by Atalanta after a goal-filled match, though the Nerazzurri controlled it for long periods. The home side took control of the match in the first half with goals from Parmiggiani and Arrigoni, then extended their lead in the second half through Baldo, and held off a Rossoblu comeback attempt before finally sealing the victory in the closing stages.

Atalanta started with great intensity and took the lead in the 15th minute. Ciocci made a miraculous first save on Camara, who volleyed away a poor shot from the edge of the box, but Parmiggiani was quickest to respond, turning the rebound into the net from close range. Cagliari struggled to react and conceded a second goal a few minutes later: in the 23rd minute, Leandri broke through on the right and delivered a precise low cross into the center of the area where Arrigoni, completely free at the penalty spot, controlled and beat Ciocci with a precise right-footed shot.

The Rossoblù attempted to regroup and were forced to make a substitution in the 37th minute, with Cogoni coming off for Prettenhoffer. Atalanta nearly made it three towards the end of the half when Artesani fired over after a long run. On the counterattack, Sugamele escaped the Bergamo defense but wasted his chance, firing over the crossbar. After two minutes of added time, the first half ended with Atalanta leading 2-0.

In the second half, Atalanta struck again immediately. In the 48th minute, Baldo created an assist from the outside of the box for Camara, who made no mistake in front of Ciocci to make it 3-0. Cagliari almost scored an own goal a few minutes later when Prettenhoffer deflected Baldo’s cross onto the post, attempting to get ahead of his opponents.

The substitutions attempted to revitalize the Rossoblù, and in the 62nd minute, the goal that temporarily reopened the game arrived: Cardu, just come on, headed a seemingly lost ball and inadvertently fed Mendy, who shielded the ball and beat Anelli with a precise diagonal shot to make it 3-1. The illusion was short-lived, because two minutes later, Baldo found the net to make it 4-1.

But the match suddenly heated up. In the 65th minute, Cagliari closed the gap again with a spectacular goal from Cardu: the Atalanta defense cleared the ball short, and the Rossoblu midfielder unleashed a first-time shot from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner.

Cagliari’s response, however, fizzled out in the 73rd minute, when a mistake in the build-up gave Cakolli the chance to win the ball back and score the 5-2 goal. Atalanta controlled the game without risking anything until the final whistle, which came after three minutes of injury time.
