The Under 20 team drew 2-2 at home against Sassuolo in the late match of the third matchday of the championship. The Rossoblu team had many regrets: the two-goal lead they had built in the first twenty minutes was lost early in the second half. Incidents didn’t work in their favor, first with Trepy’s injury and then with Nicola Pintus’s sending off, which forced Cagliari to tighten their ranks and at least hold on to the draw.
ONE-TWO MENDY AND TREPY
Seven minutes pass and, under the pouring rain, the Rossoblu take the lead. The goal comes from Mendy, who beats Nyarko after taking advantage of a mistake by the visiting defense, aided by Trepy’s attack. The Neroverdi react slowly, and in the 18th minute Cagliari doubles their lead: smart play by Mendy, a brilliant assist for Trepy, a confident shot, and Nyarko has no chance. The understanding between the two Rossoblu forwards works well. In the 24th minute, Goryanov threatens, his low shot flying just wide of the right post of the Emilian goal. In the 33rd minute, Trepy finds himself one-on-one, but fails to win the duel with Barani.
SASSUOLO REOPENS THE WAY
Sassuolo’s first chance came in the 41st minute, with Frangella’s powerful shot from the right edge of the box. Kehayov couldn’t hold it, the ball hit the crossbar, and the goalkeeper himself slapped it out for a corner. Frangella also took a corner, but Marchioni rose to the top, his header ricocheting off the post before going in, out of Kehayov’s reach. This incident effectively reopened a game that had been almost one-sided until then.
ALL TO BE DONE AGAIN
Sassuolo immediately threatened at the start of the second half: Kehaykov did well to block a low shot from Daldum that was about to be curled into the bottom corner; the goalkeeper dived to his left and deflected the ball into the corner. Following the corner, Weiss played it to Kulla, who held off Pintus and fired an unstoppable shot under the crossbar.
The Rossoblu raise their heads: Mendy sinks. Nyarko comes out low and blocks him, running towards the ball. The Rossoblu suffer a blow: Trepy, hit hard, can’t continue. New signing Sugamele comes in for him.
DIRECT RED CARD FOR NICOLA PINTUS
Cagliari were reduced to ten men in the 73rd minute: Nicola Pintus’s decisive challenge on Frangella prompted the referee to issue a straight red card, perhaps an excessive decision. Pisano responded, bringing on Doppio for Goryanov. Cagliari remained undeterred: Mendy’s header was met by Nyarko, who was alert. At the other end, Franke made a providential slide save from Campani’s powerful cross. Then Kehayov safely blocked a low shot from Costabile.
DOPPIO MAKES A SAVE WITH THE GOALKEEPER BEATEN
In the 84th minute, Cagliari had a scare, Doppio parrying a shot from Benvenuti near the goal line. Earlier, however, Daldum had fouled Kehayov in attack.
In the final minutes, playing in pouring rain and with strong winds interfering with the trajectories, nothing significant happened. Cagliari takes home at least one point and climbs to 21 points in the standings.
Away to Genoa on Sunday.
