Primavera, Pisacane after Cagliari-Fiorentina

Youth Sector - 23 December 2024

Fabio Pisacane, coach of Cagliari’s Primavera team, commented on the 2-0 victory against Fiorentina at the CRAI Sport Center.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
“The biggest compliments go to the boys because they deserved to spend a peaceful Christmas with a victory. They know they’ve left a few points on the table, and there’s some regret about that, but in football and in life, what matters is what’s around the corner and the challenges ahead, not those behind. We were good at interpreting a match that was prepared in a completely different way, which we had to rethink this morning due to the prohibitive weather conditions. We chose from the start players with more stamina and intensity because it was a completely different challenge than what it would have been under normal weather conditions. Fiorentina is a top-level opponent; their quality and position in the standings speak for themselves. But I saw the boys motivated and focused, and I had no doubt that Cagliari would have its say, as we saw”.

THE PATH
“A good number of the players are part of last season’s core. I am always very honest with them, both in positive moments and in negative ones. Today, we have 3 points less compared to this point last season in the league. However, beyond that, I see the glass half full because there is a level of play that, in the first few months last season, we were still working on. This year, we started with an open project in the first five matches, where we lost four of the six games played, and that’s an emblematic statistic. We are finding a solid balance; we have the best defense, but we must not rest on these excellent numbers. We can regret losing a few points, and that should make us even hungrier for the second half of the season. We have a squad that’s not particularly deep, and we are working to improve every single player with a view to the future, always keeping the first team as the main goal of our work. Today, I’m much happier with where we are compared to where we were twelve months ago, but the road is long. We have a challenging path ahead, and we’ll give our all until the last day to achieve as much as possible”.
