Cagliari’s new stadium and UEFA EURO 2032 bid: operational meeting at the FIGC

This afternoon, Tuesday, February 18, a meeting was held at the FIGC headquarters in Rome between delegations from UEFA, the Italian Football Federation, the Municipality of Cagliari, COSTIM RE, and Cagliari Calcio. The meeting focused on the progress of the new stadium project and the city’s candidacy for hosting UEFA EURO 2032.

The UEFA delegation consisted of Martin Kallen, CEO of UEFA Events SA; Michele Uva, UEFA Executive Director and Official Delegate for EURO 2032; and Andreas Mex Schaer, UEFA Director of National Team Football Operations. The FIGC was represented by Antonio Talarico, Head of International Events; Giovanni Spitaleri, Head of Innovation; and Matteo Galdelli, International Events. The Municipality of Cagliari was represented by General Director Antonella Marcello, Councilor for Sport Giuseppe Macciotta, and directors Daniele Olla (RUP) and Salvatore Farci (Urban Planning). Cagliari Calcio was represented by President Tommaso Giulini, CEO Stefano Melis, lawyer Antonio Romei, and engineer Alessandro Gosti, technical director of the new stadium project. They were accompanied by engineer Paolo Cervini and lawyer Francesco Percassi, CEO and general manager, respectively, of the industrial partner COSTIM RE.

During the meeting, Architect Giovanni Giacobone of Sportium, the company responsible for the design, presented the final version of the project, illustrating its features and its full compliance with the standards required for hosting top-level international competitions, including UEFA EURO 2032, which was fully appreciated by the UEFA delegation.

The discussions confirmed the significant progress of the project from a technical, administrative, and economic-financial perspective, as well as full institutional consensus on the next steps. In this context, the municipal administration reiterated its willingness to decisively pursue the process, with the goal of launching the international public tender by next June. This step represents a crucial milestone in enabling UEFA to include Cagliari among the candidate cities to host UEFA EURO 2032 by July 2026.

An operational meeting was held this afternoon, Tuesday 18 February, at the FIGC headquarters in Rome, bringing together delegations from UEFA, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the Municipality of Cagliari, COSTIM RE and Cagliari Calcio. The meeting focused on the progress of the new stadium project and on the city’s candidacy to be included among the host venues for UEFA EURO 2032.

The UEFA delegation included Martin Kallen – CEO of UEFA Events SA, Michele Uva – UEFA Executive Director and Official Delegate for EURO 2032, and Andreas Mex Schaer – UEFA Director of National Team Football Operations. Representing the FIGC were Antonio Talarico – Head of International Events, Giovanni Spitaleri – Head of Innovation, and Matteo Galdelli – International Events. The Municipality of Cagliari was represented by Director General Antonella Marcello, Councillor for Sport Giuseppe Macciotta, and senior officials Daniele Olla (RUP) and Salvatore Farci (Urban Planning).

For Cagliari Calcio, President Tommaso Giulini, CEO Stefano Melis, Avv. Antonio Romei and Alessandro Gosti, Technical Director of the new stadium project, were present, alongside Eng. Paolo Cervini and Avv. Francesco Percassi, representing the industrial partner COSTIM RE.

The discussion confirmed the significant progress achieved by the project from a technical, administrative and financial standpoint, as well as full institutional alignment on the next steps. In this context, the Municipal Administration reiterated its commitment to move forward with determination in the approval process, with the objective of launching the international public tender by next June. This milestone is fundamental to enabling UEFA to include Cagliari, by July 2026, among the candidate host cities for UEFA EURO 2032.
