The Integrity Tour 2024/2025, an initiative now in its tenth edition promoted by Lega Serie A, Sportradar, and the Istituto per il Credito Sportivo e Culturale, aimed at strengthening the culture of legality in the world of football and spreading the true values of sport, made a stop in Cagliari on Wednesday, December 4th.
At the “CRAI Sport Center” in Assemini, a meeting was held with the First Team and the Youth Sector of Cagliari Calcio. The main goal of this initiative, which involved players, coaches, and managers of the Rossoblù Club, was to educate and train all athletes, from the youngest to the most experienced, on the seriousness of the match-fixing phenomenon, in order to combat sports fraud and ensure the fair conduct of competitions.
During the workshop, Marcello Presilla, Integrity Manager for Italy at Sportradar AG, explained to the registered participants the phenomenon of match-fixing in all its forms—outlining the risks and consequences—and provided an overview of the profile of the so-called “fixers” and the approaches they use to target football players. These approaches, increasingly common through social media and new technological tools, pose a threat to players’ careers, reputations, and the very credibility of the football system. Presilla then delved into the issues related to violations in betting and the correct use of social media by players.
“Prevention and education are among the essential pillars in the fight against match-fixing,” said Cagliari Calcio’s Sporting Director, Nereo Bonato. “Meetings like today’s, which involved both the first-team staff and players as well as those from our youth sectors, are crucial for explaining the potential threats, the consequences, reducing risks, and maintaining constant awareness of a phenomenon that must be eradicated in order to safeguard the integrity of sport.”
The Integrity Tour will continue in the coming weeks with meetings in all the cities hosting Serie A teams for the 2024/2025 season, with the goal of raising awareness among the key figures of Italy’s top football league about the importance of legality in sport.
