Yerry Mina is now part of Cagliari

First Team - 01/02/2024

Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the acquisition of the sporting rights of the player Yerry Mina, who arrives from Fiorentina on a permanent basis. He has signed a contract until June 30, 2024, with an option for the Club to extend for an additional season.

Born in 1994 in Guachené, Colombia, Mina made his debut at just 19 years old with Deportivo Pasto, a team in the top division of his country. From there, he moved to Independiente Santa Fe, with whom he played a key role in winning the championship, national cup, and Copa Sudamericana in 2015. After totaling 124 appearances and 12 goals, he left the club to join Palmeiras in May 2016. He continued his success in Brazil, winning the national title and accumulating 41 appearances and 9 goals in two seasons.

His performances caught the attention of top European clubs, and in January 2018, he was signed by Barcelona, contributing to their victories in La Liga and the national cup. In the summer, he made a permanent move to the Premier League with Everton, where he became a cornerstone of the “Toffees” defense, making 99 appearances and scoring 9 goals. Last summer, he joined Serie A with Fiorentina.

As the first defender to score in three consecutive matches in the history of the World Cup, achieving this record in Russia in 2018, he currently has 43 appearances and 7 goals for the national team.

A physically strong center-back, standing at 195 centimeters, with good individual technique and tactical intelligence, skilled in building up play, his main strengths include marking and aerial play. Utilizing his height, elevation, and timing on headers, he is effective both defensively and offensively in set-piece situations.

With international experience, personality, and charisma to strengthen the red-blue defense, welcome to Sardinia, Yerry!
