Primo contratto da professionista per Iliev
Il Cagliari Calcio è lieto di annunciare il primo contratto da professionista siglato da Velizar-Ilia Iliev che si lega ai colori rossoblù sino al 30 giugno 2028.
Classe 2005, nato a Sofia, il portiere è arrivato dalla Bulgaria in Sardegna nell’estate 2021 per iniziare un percorso di crescita nel settore giovanile. Ha esordito in Primavera a 17 anni, il 13 novembre 2022, con un clean sheet nella vittoria in trasferta contro il Cesena (0-1) totalizzando nella sua prima stagione 11 presenze. Nel campionato successivo ha giocato 18 partite dando il suo sostanziale contributo alla conquista dei 50 punti ottenuti dalla squadra, arrivata settima in classifica, ad un passo dai play-off.
In questa stagione, a suon di parate e prestazioni di livello, si sta ritagliando un ruolo da autentico protagonista: punto di riferimento per i compagni, in campionato ha tenuto la porta imbattuta già in 7 match. Determinante nel cammino della squadra in Coppa Italia: ai quarti di finale al Viola Park contro la Fiorentina, dopo il pareggio ai tempi regolamentari, è stato decisivo parando due calci di rigore che hanno permesso al Cagliari di mister Pisacane di approdare in semifinale contro la Juventus, gara poi vinta al CRAI Sport Center per 2-0.
Nel giro della prima squadra – con cui si allena abitualmente ed è stato convocato in più occasioni per le gare ufficiali – vanta 5 presenze con le selezioni giovanili del suo Paese ed è nell’orbita della nazionale U21.
Alto ben 194 centimetri, sicuro e reattivo tra i pali, Iliev è un portiere di prospettiva con ampi margini di miglioramento. Grande dedizione al lavoro e al sacrificio, positività, tanta voglia di crescere.

First professional contract for Iliev
Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the signing of Velizar-Ilia Iliev’s first professional contract, binding him to the rossoblù colors until June 30, 2028.
Born in 2005 in Sofia, the goalkeeper arrived in Sardinia from Bulgaria in the summer of 2021 to begin his development journey in the youth sector. He made his Primavera debut at 17 on November 13, 2022, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 away victory against Cesena. In his first season, he made 11 appearances. The following season, he played 18 matches, making a significant contribution to the team’s 50 points, which secured a seventh-place finish, just short of the playoffs.
This season, with outstanding saves and high-level performances, he is carving out a key role as a true protagonist. A reference point for his teammates, he has already kept seven clean sheets in the league. He has been crucial in the team’s Coppa Italia campaign: in the quarter-finals at Viola Park against Fiorentina, after a draw in regular time, he was decisive by saving two penalty kicks, allowing coach Pisacane’s Cagliari to reach the semi-finals against Juventus. The team then won that match 2-0 at the CRAI Sport Center.
Already integrated with the first team—training regularly and receiving multiple call-ups for official matches—he has also earned five caps with Bulgaria’s youth national teams and is on the radar of the U21 squad.
Standing 194 centimeters tall, confident and reactive between the posts, Iliev is a promising goalkeeper with plenty of room for improvement. He possesses great dedication, hardworking spirit, positivity, and a great desire to grow.
