Luperto to “Corriere dello Sport”

Interviews - 9 January 2025

Sebastiano Luperto spoke to Corriere dello Sport today, available on newsstands. Below is an excerpt from the words of the Rossoblù defender.

A NEW CHALLENGE
“I got to know coach Nicola at Empoli last season. When he arrived in January, we had just thirteen points, but he managed to reignite the spark. He’s a phenomenon when it comes to transmitting enthusiasm and his football concepts, while also helping you shed mental blocks that turn into energy. It was a great run towards survival. I immediately accepted Cagliari’s offer: I felt not only Nicola’s trust but also that of the president, with whom I had a video call. That was the push that made me accept with excitement.”

THE ROSSOBLÙ JOURNEY
“It’s normal over the course of a season to have good moments and others that are less so. We started well, then there was a dip, and now we’re reacting after a difficult period in terms of results. In Monza, we stepped onto the field with confidence, despite four consecutive defeats. What helped us was the awareness that we had always put in good performances. It’s these performances that give you confidence when the results don’t come, but we know that until the very end, we’ll have to fight, as always, when you’re battling for survival. The fight at the bottom is fiercer and more balanced than ever, with just three points separating twelfth from eighteenth place.”

THE TEAMMATES

“Mina is the opponent you never want to face, but as a teammate, he’s phenomenal. Piccoli is a wonderful guy, almost naïve at times because he’s so cheerful; he has everything to break through: jumping ability, power, and shooting. To grow, in my opinion, he just needs to learn to make the right choice at the decisive moments of the play. He needs to be less frantic and more of a thinker. These are all things that come with experience. Zortea and Felici are talented young players who are improving. We have a great group that works hard and stays united. As for me? I’m measured, balanced, even in the way I approach the game. It’s just a characteristic, nothing more.”

TOWARDS MILAN
“It will be a tough challenge against a great team. We are calm, confident, and motivated by the prospect of facing a top club.”
