The General Manager of Cagliari Calcio, Stefano Melis, spoke to DAZN’s microphones before the Cagliari–Genoa match, which kicks off at 3:00 PM. These are his words.
THE NEW STADIUM
“The decisive services conference was an important step we had been waiting for, to give the green light to the project. We are working together with the Municipality and the Region; Cagliari Calcio, as the project proponent, is finalizing the economic and financial plan so that we can proceed to the public tender and then begin construction as soon as possible. The goal is to give substance and strength to the city of Cagliari’s bid to host Euro 2032, so that Sardinia, too, can serve as a stage for this very important event.”
AMERICAN INVESTORS
“Cagliari Calcio is now a well-managed, solid club, with Italian ownership that over eleven years has shown its ability to create a strong foundation for growth. The investors are joining with the intention and the ability to support us not only in the process of building the new stadium, but also more broadly to grow together and bring Cagliari to a higher level.”
THE MATCH
“Today’s game is certainly important because it’s a direct clash; a win would make everyone happier, but it must not become an obsession. We know where we want to go, we are on track with our path, and I like to point out that at a time when there is much talk about the National Team and the difficulties of Italian football, we are one of the teams that fields the most young players and the most Italian players — and we intend to continue this way. We go out on the pitch hoping to see a good match, and that the Unipol Domus can enjoy an excellent show.”
