Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce that it has appointed Massimiliano Canzi as Director of the Club’s Youth Sector, who has signed a contract until June 30, 2031.

A UEFA Pro Coach, Canzi begins a new stage in his career, a managerial journey in which he will be able to put his extensive experience in the world of football, his technical and human values, to the service of the Club, the young players of the Rossoblu academy – with an important focus also on the Under 20s and the entire Women’s Sector.

Born in Milan, born in 1966, for Canzi it is a return to the rossoblù, where he left his mark by covering the role of manager of the Primavera team and assistant coach in the first team in the past. He started on the bench very early, already at 18: he started from the youth sectors and reached the first teams up to professionalism: having joined Mario Beretta’s technical staff, he accompanied him in his experiences – in Italy and abroad – in Lecce, Turin, Paok Salonicco and Brescia, his deputy in Cesena, Siena and Latina.

The two will meet again on the island in the summer of 2015 with Beretta in charge of the youth sector and Canzi coach of the Rossoblù Primavera. In his first season, the team with him qualified for the playoffs. Having obtained immediate promotion to Primavera 1, following the Championship reform, in 2018/19 the rossoblù fought until the end to gain new access to the final stages of the tournament. In the 2019/20 championship the team was second in the standings, before the championship was suspended in February due to COVID. These are years characterized not only by sporting results, but also by the work done with the young people who put themselves on display in the Primavera and enter the first team. Canzi himself will then complete the 2019/20 season, when the Serie A championship resumes in the summer, in the first team as assistant coach of Cagliari led by Walter Zenga, thus contributing to the conquest of salvation.

In the summer of 2020, he remained in Sardinia but moved to Olbia, to lead the Gallura team in Serie C: a young group with whom, in addition to the club’s record points (47) in the category, he achieved access to the playoffs for two seasons in a row. At Pontedera he repeated himself: record points for the Tuscans, always in the playoffs with Canzi on the bench. His performances did not go unnoticed and in May 2024, Juventus decided to entrust him with the women’s first team: with the Bianconere in two seasons, he won a Scudetto, an Italian Super Cup, an Italian Cup, and a Serie A Women’s Cup, in addition to being awarded the Panchina d’Oro of Serie A Women for the 2024-25 season.

Welcome back to Cagliari and good luck, Max!
