Young Rossoblù defender Juan Rodríguez spoke to the media after Cagliari’s victory over Lecce at the Unipol Domus.
THREE PRECIOUS POINTS
“It was an intense, difficult game, it was a direct clash: getting the three points today means a lot. We’re happy, also because we kept a clean sheet – for the second time in three games in this Serie A season. We played well and deserved this victory: it’s a good start to the season, and we have to keep working.”
A TEAM THAT FIGHTS
“Winning today was also important to erase the memory of our last home defeat in the Coppa Italia: our fans deserved a victory. We’re a combative team that wants to win every duel, every ball. We showed that today, and we have to show it every time, in every game. My substitution? I was a bit tired; staying on the pitch at that point could lead to making a mistake: it was right for a teammate who was at 100% to come on in my place.”
ALL TOGETHER FOR KEVIN
“We heard this afternoon about the bereavement that has affected Kevin Carlos. We’re close to him. We send him and his family a warm embrace.”
WORKING TO GROW
“Last season was useful for me to adapt to football in Italy and to get into the team’s mechanisms. We came from Uruguay, from a different league. This year I have more experience, and I want to do more for this Club and for the team. I’m doing that, but I have to keep improving. Every game is an exam. I get along well with Deiola; he’s the captain, he leads everyone, especially us younger players. He has a lot of experience.”
FALLING AND GETTING BACK UP
“Wearing the captain’s armband in the previous game and being considered one of the team’s leaders is a great source of pride for me: I thank the Club and all my teammates for their trust. Against Hellas, I had played a good game, but then I made a mistake towards the end that unfortunately cost us dearly. Those were two difficult days for me; I couldn’t stop thinking about that mistake. I started training with the team and my teammates helped me get through that moment”.
