Statements by President Tommaso Giulini

President Tommaso Giulini met the media in Milan on the occasion of the Lega Assembly.

BERGAMO’S VICTORY
“Last year, again with Mr. Pisacane, we had 7 points after 4 games, so it’s not the first time we’ve started well. We have to and we want to save ourselves, we’ve always said that the idea is to try to do it a little earlier than in the past, improving what we did last season. In this sense, starting with two points more than a year ago undoubtedly satisfies us, but it’s only the beginning of a still very long journey. We certainly hope not to encounter disappointing performances like that of Italian Cup against Verona”.

ALESSANDRO ROMANO ON THE RISE
“Is he like Palestra? The difference is that he is a club asset. We wish Marco the best; he suffered a minor injury, but he will prove his worth this year as well. Naturally, we are pleased with Alessandro—happy with how he has settled in and that he chose the Italian national team. He will have the chance to make his debut under a head coach who works well with young players and who previously gave a debut to one of our own, Nicolò Barella.”

THE MALDINI SITUATION
“As a father, I always say not to take the car or motorbike when you go out for a drink. I think Daniel knows this too and I believe that next time he won’t make certain mistakes that could put his safety and that of other people at risk. However, we are astounded to read certain news like those of the last few hours. To date, the traces of drugs seem to me to be more in the newspapers than elsewhere, and this is very serious. We believe in the good faith of the boy, who swears that he has not taken drugs, not going beyond a few alcohol, as found by the breathalyzer values. We don’t know how certain news could have come out: evidently, the local police or the hospital decided to leak it. We will see the developments.”

“Personally I saw the Municipal Police report after he left the emergency room and it only talks about a screening done with a pre-test, where there seem to be traces of THC. If he smoked a joint, and I don’t think it happened, I think there is a big difference compared to hard drugs like ketamine or other. It all seems rather bizarre to me and I add that, if we didn’t talk about Paolo Maldini’s son, the resonance would undoubtedly be much less widespread.”

“Whoever spread certain news will have to assume their responsibilities, both those who spread it and those who wrote about it. I haven’t spoken to the boy yet, I will do so tomorrow. We believe him: he arrived in Cagliari on Monday morning, he immediately agreed to do the tests as soon as we asked him. He did the same thing on Saturday at the hospital. I think it’s all very serious also in terms of image: for him, for Cagliari, for the Italian national team, where he was first called up.”
