Davide Nicola is the new coach

First Team - 05/07/2024

Davide Nicola is Cagliari’s new coach: the coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2026 with an option to extend for one more season.

A Piedmontese from Vigone (born in San Giovanni di Luserna, province of Turin, on March 5, 1973), he brings with him a long and solid experience in the world of Italian soccer, gained first as a player and then on the bench. Genoa, Torino and Ternana, among others, are the teams in which he played as a defender, closing at Lumezzane.

It was here that he also began his coaching career, immediately touching the Serie C play-offs. He then moved to Livorno, in Serie B, and the first shot was promotion to the top division through the play-offs. After a spell at Bari, Crotone chose him for a historic first season in Serie A, culminating in salvation thanks to a disruptive turnaround. Udinese, Genoa, and Torino (between 2018 and 2021) serve as a prelude to experiences with Salernitana (from February 2022) and Empoli (from January 2024) for two tenures in Serie A imbued with his technical, tactical, and charismatic gifts.

The ability to motivate players and develop a winning strategy in the face of all kinds of pressures, human qualities and empathy with the group and the environment are all qualities that make Davide Nicola a figure capable of transmitting values such as perseverance and long-range vision, which are crucial for all of us to pursue together the goals set and look to the future with renewed confidence.

Meticulous, prepared, a real fighter: it is now time for a new challenge for Nicola

Welcome to Cagliari, Mister!
