🎙️INTERVIEW | Esposito to La Gazzetta dello Sport

Forward Sebastiano Esposito, who scored eight goals and six assists in his first season in Sardinia, spoke exclusively with La Gazzetta dello Sport, on newsstands today. He spoke about his strong relationship with his family, his challenges for the Rossoblu, and his goals. Below is an excerpt of his words:

HEART AND ROOTS
“Pio, Salvatore and I made a choice two years ago, to play with the same shirt number, in the name of our neighbourhood, “Cicerone 94”. We met for the holidays in Castellammare, our sister Anna Maria was getting married. We also took advantage of it to play on the pitch that we donated to the neighbourhood. Being footballers gives advantages, both financially and in terms of fame, but we also like to help. Today our father Agostino runs Voluntas Brescia with Marco Zambelli, which I purchased together with my brothers because our discoverer, Roberto Clerici, who had brought us from Naples to Brescia, passed away, Voluntas was having problems and we took over out of gratitude.

RED AND BLUE CHALLENGE
“Cagliari is a vibrant club, just the way I like it; I really wanted it. It has a fan base that really pushes us in our stadium. There’s an entire community behind it. Cagliari is like a national team. I don’t like the comfort zone; I seek challenges. And Cagliari, coming from Inter, was the most difficult. They have a healthy group that’s willing to work. It’ll be tough, because arriving is easy, confirming your position is extremely difficult.”

A STRONG PERSONALITY
“I have a strong personality, and sometimes it’s cost me. I grew up quickly, and I’ve always seen myself as bigger than I was. Am I often angry? I’ve always wanted to give something more. But I need to start enjoying the good times. My childhood idol? Francesco Totti.”

CLEAR GOALS AND LEADERSHIP
“I don’t follow statistics or set goals. Nor am I someone who tries to score at all costs. As an attacking midfielder, I enjoy assists, good play, and I love taking risks. If I have to say one thing, it’s that I want to save myself. After a meeting with the club, I asked to be given more responsibility in the role. To be among the leaders. I enjoy helping the younger players in the group, scolding them when necessary, especially because, despite being only 24, I have a few games under my belt.”
