A morning dedicated to sport, sharing and strengthening ties with the local community. Cagliari Calcio took part in the inauguration of the stands and facilities at the renovated municipal sports ground in Sarroch, named after Mario Tiddia, the much-loved former Rossoblù player and coach. The event involved more than 300 students from lower secondary schools in Sarroch, Pula, Capoterra, Villa San Pietro and Domus de Maria, with the aim of promoting sport as an opportunity for personal growth, interaction and education.
Representing the Club were First Team captain Alessandro Deiola, goalkeeper Alen Sherri and Pierluigi Carta, Sporting Director of the Youth Academy. The event, organised by Saras in collaboration with Cagliari Calcio and the Municipality of Sarroch, with the support of ASD Gioventù Sarroch, featured a range of sports and recreational activities on the pitch. These were organised across different stations and led by coaches from the local club, with the involvement of the Rossoblù players and accompanying teachers. The students also had the opportunity to meet their heroes up close, take photographs and share a special moment united by their passion for football.
COMMITMENT AND THE POWER OF EXAMPLE
“I also grew up in a town in the province and, from a young age, nurtured the dream of wearing the Cagliari shirt,” Alessandro Deiola explained, highlighting the importance of commitment and determination in pursuing one’s goals. His message to the students centred on a journey built on passion, sacrifice and perseverance. Alen Sherri emphasised the importance of always believing in one’s own abilities, at any level and in any setting, approaching sport with dedication and a desire to improve, while never forgetting the joy of playing and having fun.
SPORT, THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AND A SHARED FUTURE
The initiative also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the social value of the sports facility named after Mario Tiddia. Sarroch Mayor Angelo Dessì highlighted how the facility serves not only the local community but the wider surrounding area, bringing together sporting activities, social interaction and collective growth.
“Our commitment to the local community, particularly to younger generations, is also reflected in initiatives like this, which promote sport in its purest form and highlight the values it can convey,” said Massimo Vacca, Saras’ Head of External Relations & ESG.
The morning concluded with a commemorative moment in honour of Mario Tiddia, marked by the unveiling of a plaque inside the facility named after him. The event reaffirmed the importance of cooperation between sports clubs, institutions and businesses in placing young people at the centre of their efforts and recognising sport as an educational tool and a meaningful opportunity for participation across the entire community.
